...See more Hobbies Help Our Mental Health! Mental health and self-care are intricately linked, and engaging in hobbies can be a powerful tool to support both.  Hobbies are very personal. Each of us likes and chooses something different for our hobbies, and the choice we make can however affect our mental health. Some hobbies can actually raise our stress and frustration levels, especially worrying about getting something right. The painter that can’t capture the painting they want, or the musician that needs to practice for hours every day. So choosing the right hobby for the right time can help to improve our mental health. Having a mix of relaxing and energetic, mindful and chaotic can all help to ease the stresses and pressures of our lives.  Here are a few hobbies known to benefit mental health:-: * Art Therapy: Engaging in artistic activities such as drawing, painting, or sculpting can promote relaxation and self-expression, which are beneficial for managing stress and improving mood. A study published in the Journal of the American Art Therapy Association found that art therapy can reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. At 7 Cups we have a dedicated Arts & Crafts Community Here * Gardening: Spending time outdoors and caring for plants has been shown to reduce stress and improve overall well-being. Research published in the Journal of Health Psychology suggests that gardening can promote mood enhancement and stress reduction. Gardening is a topic in Hobby Zone so please post Here * Music Therapy: Listening to or creating music can have a profound impact on mental health by reducing stress, promoting relaxation, and enhancing emotional expression. A systematic review published in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews concluded that music therapy can effectively reduce symptoms of depression. Music and Dance Community Here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/music/]  * Physical Exercise: Engaging in physical activities such as walking, running, or yoga can improve both physical and mental health. Regular exercise has been shown to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. We have a Sports & Fitness topic Here * Reading & Writing: Immersing oneself in a good book can provide an escape from everyday stressors and promote relaxation. Research published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology found that reading can be an effective form of stress relief, leading to decreased levels of cortisol, the stress hormone. Reading and Writing Community is Here * Cooking and Baking: Cooking or baking can be a creative outlet that allows individuals to express themselves while also providing a sense of accomplishment. Research has shown that engaging in cooking-related activities can improve mood and increase feelings of happiness. Share your recipes Here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/hobbyzone/FoodRecipestoShare_2652/] or share cooking tips Here  [https://www.7cups.com/forum/hobbyzone/Foodallaboutfood_1139/] * Outdoor Activities: Spending time outdoors and engaging in activities such as hiking, camping, or birdwatching can promote feelings of connection to nature and provide opportunities for physical activity and relaxation. Research suggests that spending time in natural environments can reduce stress and improve cognitive function  One special way to make our hobbies work for our mental wealth more is to ‘mindful hobby’. Using simple mindfulness techniques to improve the benefit of our hobby time. Being present in the moment, concentrating on what we are doing rather than letting our minds race. ------------------------- I hope that this has given you all food for thought,  perhaps you will look for a new hobby, or perhaps you may look at your hobbies in a more respectful way;  they are doing you and your mental health more good than you may realise!
Hobbies and Motivation!

...See more This is Motivational March and so I wanted to discuss with you about your hobbies and what motivates you to get started! Often I find it hard to motivate myself and so I might look at doing other things for a while. If I am in a 'hobby slump' and just want to find another project then that is exactly what I do. So often I might have many 'WIP' work in progress. I also know sometimes I look at all my yarn and knitting needles and groan! I love knitting but sometimes I just want to watch tv! I found my mojo when I wanted a new beanie hat, it was something I could easily knit AND watch tv lol! And, of course I got a warm hat :) So please take a moment to answer the following questions, of perhaps just read and think about them. ? Could you please tell me how you motivate yourself to spend time on your hobbies? ? Which hobby do you feel motivates you the most? ? Which hobby do you find the most rewarding? Senior marching band speech (Bandimonies)
by SmollPeridotsBreakdown

...See more Every year my schools marching band does what we call bandimonies, its where all the seniors in the band give a short speech to the band. Everyone recommends starting on your ideas for it as soon as you can, so despite only being a sophomore I want to start now I organized a few ideas and topics to talk about and have written a draft that I want to get some opinions on For reference K is a friend, E is another friend, D is a director, R is also a director This is going to sound corny and I'm sure you’ve all heard this a million times from seniors in their bandimonies but band truly saved me. I first started band in my freshman year with copper mountains jazz band, i had never truly committed and learned an instrument before but the band needed someone to play bass and E recommended me to D, with his help i was able to learn so much in a very short amount of time, I will always be grateful to him for pushing me to learn more and get better.  I joined marching band and percussion my sophomore year and almost gave up time and time again, i lost many people dear to me that year but R and everyone in front ensemble with me were understanding and helped me push through and make the absolute best of a very rough situation.  I’ve gone through a lot of mental health issues over the year but music and band has been there for me through it all.  Then theres K, she’s been my absolute best friend since the 3rd grade, she inspired me to join band and get into music, she’s stuck with me through thick and thin. I don't know where I’d be without her. Thank you K. It’s been an amazing experience to be here with you all and see everyone including myself grow over the years. Thank you all and I hope to keep in touch with anyone who’d like to and I’d love to see what you all go on to do in the future.  Again this is a very rough draft and some parts just hit main topics or points I may want to bring up

My current skincare products

...See more Hello everyone, i’ve been wanting to share some of my favorite skincare products I've been using. If you are someone who cannot tolerate fragrance you are in luck as many of the products I use are fragrance free. Everyone has different skin and if you have a routine that works for you please stick with it. In no way am I saying you need to get these products to be beautiful .You are all lovely and beautiful people and skincare is something I enjoy and want to share with yall. ❤️❤️❤️ ☀️ Banana Boat sensitive spray sunscreen- I spray it on my fingers and apply accordingly. 🧽 Cerave SA face wash (blue bottle) and Cerave hydrating oil face wash ( Green bottle)- I use the blue bottled one daily and the one in the green bottle when I need to remove my mascara. The green one is great but I don’t know if I will purchase it again. 🫧Bubble Deep Dive Exfoliating face mask- This is a new item I am currently trying out, I apply to my face and leave it on for 10 to 15 min. If I feel a pimple coming on I apply some of it to the spot and I feel like its gone the next day. 🧖‍♀️ Abelone cleansing oil balm- I love this for removing my makeup. I am really gentle around the eye area with the product and if I want to make sure my mascara is completely gone, I will go in with my Cerave cleansing oil face wash. 🥽 L’oreal Revitalift eye serum with hyaluronic acid / caffeine (fragrance free version) - I recently got this as I have bad dark circles and eye bags. It has a little roller ball to apply the product. The downside is though is that it cannot be worn with makeup it will make your eye area look dry. I apply this on top of my retinol. 🧪Cerave Retinol serum- I started using a retinol in my routine lately and it is still too early to see a difference in my skin. I am very cautious with this product, I only try it out once a week as it is still new to my skin. I will increase frequency when I can tell that my own skin can tolerate it and IT CAN CAUSE PEELING. I only wear at night because wearing retinol during the day can cause burns unless you apply a sunscreen on top. If you wear retinol in the daytime apply a sunscreen on top 🧴 Vanicream Moisturizing Cream- I love this it is perfect for my winter dry skin. I wear this cream instead of applying a makeup primer because it makes the skin look really good.
Pumpkin Pie Recipe

...See more Here’s one of my absolute favorite dessert recipes—I just love it! This pumpkin pie is perfectly spiced, with a buttery crust and creamy filling. Paired with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, it’s a comforting treat that’s hard to beat. Enjoy! Pumpkin Pie Recipe Ingredients: For the crust: * 250 g flour * 125 g cold butter, diced * 70 g sugar * 1 egg * 1 teaspoon vanilla extract * Pinch of salt * 2-3 tablespoons cold water For the filling: * 400 g pumpkin puree (you can make it fresh or use canned) * 150 g sugar * 2 eggs * 200 ml fresh cream (or milk) * 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon * 1/4 teaspoon salt * 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Instructions: Making Fresh Pumpkin Puree (optional): * Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). * Cut a small pumpkin in half, scoop out the seeds, and place the halves face down on a lined baking sheet. * Bake for 45-60 minutes, or until the pumpkin is soft. * Let cool, then scoop out the flesh and blend it until smooth. Now you have fresh pumpkin puree! Preparing the Crust: * In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Add the cold butter and rub it in with your fingertips until you get a crumbly texture. * Add the egg and vanilla, mixing until the dough begins to form. If it’s too dry, add cold water, one tablespoon at a time, until it comes together. * Form a ball, flatten into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Preparing the Filling: * Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). * In a large bowl, mix the pumpkin puree, sugar, eggs, cream, cinnamon, salt, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth. Assembling the Pie: * Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to about 3 mm thickness. Transfer to a pie dish, pressing gently along the edges, and trim any excess. * *** the base of the crust with a fork to prevent bubbling. * Pour the pumpkin filling into the crust. Baking: * Bake the pie for 55-60 minutes, or until the filling is set and the top is lightly golden. Insert a knife into the center, it should come out clean when done. Cooling & Serving: * Let the pie cool to room temperature. * Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra treat! Enjoy!

Need some indoor/window gardening advice!
by
Last post
October 28th
...See more So, this year I decided to grow a garden, yay! In addition to growing plants outside, I'd really like to start some indoor plants in my bedroom. I'd preferably like to have some window plants that I can set on each of my two windows sills, or on a small table next to the windows. I'd like to grow any plants that will not get too big or drape down planters, so I was thinking maybe herbs? I'm not partial to any plant so it can be anything, as long as it's cute and leafy. Here are the specifics: • I have two windows. One faces west, the other north • US zone four gardening • My windows are average or a bit on the smaller side (don't know the exact measurements, sorry!) • Has to be pet/cat safe • I'm wheelchair bound so I'm looking for plants that are "relatively" low maintenance. I'm still doing a bit of research, but I decided to ask here since I know a few 7cuppers have a green thumb. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be most thankful!
