Using ‘Find a listener

Lakshmi108 April 8th, 2020

I havent been able to figure out how to use this in a way that helps me.

When I put in criteria, and tap ‘search, it gives me listeners who arent online, and they dont say when theyre online, including time zone.

Id like to find a compatible listener whos available when I use 7cups.

Id appreciate help in achieving my goal.

Thanks. 🙏🏼

@Lakshmi108

If it only shows them offline it means that your search was too specific so what you're looking for isn't online. Most listeners here come when they can or want so there is also no way of knowing when they're online unless they have specific time written in their bio when they are, but that still isn't a 100% guarantee. You can always just message them while offline and ask.

@AbbyHarris1976 Thanks for the sound advice.

I definitely got that its vital to completely read through listeners profiles before approaching them about 1-1 chat.

Decided to try posting in long term listener support, stating what Im looking for in a listener instead of browsing.

Hopefully Ill match up with somebody whos a good fit for me that way.

@Lakshmi108 I would suggest going about it the other way around—start with all the listeners who are online when you are, then eliminate the ones who are obviously unsuitable and choose one of the most experienced listeners from the rest.

I once tracked the number of adult listeners who were online over a 24-hour period, and it varied from about 80 to about 160 depending on the time of day. Right now as I'm typing this it's 90. So if you filter the list too much it's easy to end up with no listeners to choose from.

Filtering for a particular topic can be unhelpful, because it's slightly more likely that topic specialists will feel the need to tell you about their own way of thinking instead of understanding your way of thinking.

Filtering for a particular gender can be unhelpful, because doing that excludes listeners who don't reveal their gender.

Using the forum is a good idea, because you can describe what kind of listener you're looking for. You could also describe what kind of listener you're looking for right here in this thread and in your own profile.

Im seeking a long term listener who has experience navigating significant, multiple life changes at once.

As a result of current conditions, Ive changed my type of work, and Im also in the process of starting a new business that I can do from home.

Ive also taken on the responsibility of checking in with family members, making sure that theyre taking proper care of themselves, and connecting them with resources when needed.

Someone who is also self employed, or has worked more than one job at a time would be great. Perhaps someone who has had experience as a family caregiver.

I may add to this in another post at some point; this is what I have for now.

Please message me if you think you might be a good fit.

Thanks!
