Hello
Hello, everyone, I am a bachelor's degree student majoring in psychology. Really glad to join this team, but I am still confused about how to start. Could you give me some advice? I have some questions, like should I finish all the training before starting a talk with others? Thank you for your help.
Hellooo @HuangXiyun17 so lovely to have you with us! ❤
Feeling confused is so valid, especially while starting afresh, we've all been there!
Here a Listener Primer for you, it is full of helpful links and resources and useful information, to help you start your journey as a listener, as well as to ease your navigation around.
You don't need to complete all the trainings before taking any chats or doing something prior to it.
If you're comfortable, you can definitely take up a chat and see how it goes. During chats too, if you have any doubts or need support in handling it, you can reach out to a chat supporter in the Listener Support Room.
My one tip would be to take your time and explore the community at your pace, there's lots to explore, learn and experience around here fosho!
The best part however? You never have to be alone, we all thrive here with alot of support and encouragement from our peers, you can also consider connecting with a Listener coach or a Mentor, these are trained listeners who happily help and assist other listeners out regarding the site in general, or chat related situations and questions, or resources.
Best wishes always. ❤

Regarding your question:
- Really glad to join this team, but I am still confused about how to start. Could you give me some advice? I have some questions, like should I finish all the training before starting a talk with others? Thank you for your help.
Before you start chatting with members, it would be good to:
- Do lots of test chats
- Get a Listener Mentor
- Make sure you understand the guidelines and rules very thoroughly
- Make sure you know what rule-infractions get tracked and possibly cause you to be expelled
- Make sure you understand the safety concerns very thoroughly
- Don't ever give Members specific advice other than perhaps sharing resources or very generic ideas for consideration (but always let them solve their own problem so they keep their motivation)
- Focus mostly on helping the person feel listened to
- Don't push toxic positivism on them, especially don't discount their feelings and say they shouldn't feel bad for example
- It's important to play a Listener role as close to the prescribed way that is expected
- Chat in a very professional way like it's your job and you have to stay in the role
- In some cases, scripts are available that help one know recommended ways to handle situations.
- If you have problems and you need help, then switch to your Member login and chat as a Member
Those are just some ideas I keep in mind.
Good luck.
@7motivation Thank you.

You're welcome.
Another thing I find useful is to learn about the Drama Triangle.
Then avoid falling into the Drama Triangle role traps here.
