Acronyms ๐
I should've made this post under "resources at 7 cups" lol (lots of laugh) because for real, I feel kinda outdated here sometimes! According to google, Sun is like 4.603 billion years old so that would explain! *dramatically wipes off a tear*
Hey hey lovely people reading this! ๐
A lot of times I come across these acronyms in chatrooms, forums etc and I legit have to google what they mean. *smh* (another, Shaking My Head๐คฃ)
Oh yes, Sun is *not* embarrassed in the slightest, what even is google for otherwise! ๐
But but, here's something fun and hopefully helpful for many of us.
Let's learn acronyms together! ๐ฅฐ
To begin, I'll share some common ones I found lately and let's see if anyone knows what they stand for?
โก TGIF
โก TTM
โก BOPUS
โก FWIW
โก BBIAB
Please feel free to share your most used acronyms, your favorite acronyms, your "I think it means this, let me check if others agree"- acronyms or any that you've heard around here and would like to know also!
I've noticed some of these can be very suggestive and kinda not-appropriate for the 7 cups community hehe, so please refrain from sharing them, we don't need TMI ๐ (here's another, Too Much Information). Community Guidelines for your reference one click away!
Any inappropriate/ unsupportive words, phrases, comments will be removed!
Let's keep this place full of fun, learning and more fun, whilst being respectful and appropriate! ๐ฅฐ
Please feel free to tag your peers, to share some more acronyms with us! The more we have here, the less we google hah! ๐
@Sunisshiningandsoareyou I think the best one ever is TLA (three-letter acronym).
7 Cups loves TLAs. We now have the ATL badge. Why do we have a badge for the city of Atlanta, Georgia? In olden times, as we oldies will remember, it was called Adult Teen Listener, which made some sense.
We also have the Proctor & Gamble community. Whey do we have a community for this global corporation whose trademark happens to be P&G? It's because Positivity & Gratitude is too hard to type ๐
Personally, I don't love TLAs. I think they create an in-group of people who know the meaning, and exclude newbies who don't. I'd prefer 7 Cups to be welcoming and inclusive, even if that means extra typing.
tl;dr To be inclusive, avoid acronyms.

@RarelyCharlie
They are fun in a more textual, friendly context at times, when we know the vibe of the other person, or that they'd know what we are saying. Or with the more general ones like "lol", now I'm thinking it might feel more awkward spelling this out. "Oooh you're so funny laugh(ing) out loud." >< "Oooh you're so funny lol." ๐
You're so right and I agree wholeheartedly, not a fan of acronyms and short forms too much either, they definitely can be quite limiting at times. I sometimes think to myself "where do we use these 4 seconds saved?"๐
Specially in 7 cups or with 7 cups related terms, it's always better to use the full forms, it's nice a reminder for everyone, I feel.
There have been great posts like one here: The ABCs of 7 Cups (for listeners) that contain quite a lot of commonly used abbreviations in 7 cups! I'm wondering if we can have something like this for the members, if not already!๐ฎ
Right within 7cups we have SC which could mean sharing circle, subcommunity (hopefully phasing this out) and less specific to 7cups but still used often self care.
@AffyAvo Not to mention that sc can also mean ***โis that banned here?
Charlie
@RarelyCharlie Yep! Snaphcat is banned ๐คช
Charlie
@RarelyCharlie ๐
The banned word reminded me that I found a new one recently here, "a m o s" it basically means "add me on ๐ฎ"
๐ฎ= banned word xD
Also, now this makes me wonder, I-G together is censored in chats, as it is a short form for a social media platform, (even if people be using it to say "I guess"), but then SC is too but is allowed? *-*
@Sunisshiningandsoareyou I wish we could just do away with the censors. They seem to just get in the way of people doing allowed things while people can get around them. SC as social media was one I forgot all about!
@Sunisshiningandsoareyou
Ikr? Imho iykyk ๐
@ouiCherie I know right, in my humble opinion, if you know you know!
Yay I did know them, in my humble opinion that's quite awesome, you know, right?๐
Iykyk Iydyd
@Sunisshiningandsoareyou
This whole thread is absolutely baffling ๐ญ
I hold my hand up, I usually Google them all ๐
@CalmCoral
Aw anything I can do to help in shooing off the confusion?๐ฎ
And yay *high fives* xD
@suniashiningandsoareyou
Nope ,๐คฃ
*high fives*
@CalmCoral ^5 ๐

Iโm old. I only know TGIF. ๐คฃ
@HipsterChic I'm not old, lol, but I don't know any of them except TGIF. ๐คฃ๐คฃ I want to guess TTM means 'talks too much' but surely that can't be it. Lol.
Lol!! Or is it talk to me? ๐คฃ๐ I donโt have a clue either.
@YourCaringConfidant Talks Too Much fits too lol! ๐คฃ It is more commonly known as "Talk To Me" though! xD
@Sunisshiningandsoareyou LOL, never would have guessed that. Thanks for that!
I actually think thatโs a young person attitude, as well. I think a lot of people using a lot of acronyms are 50+, and who can blame them? They went to all the trouble to learn them! But my daughterโs generation is all spelling, punctuation, minimal slang, full names, and onomatopoeia are fully spelled out. Hahahaha, and et cetera.
Youโre hip to the teenage jive!
