I wish there was a newbies chatroom.
I think this platform is great. But I just wish that there was a chatroom for newbies. I joined multiple of the group chats. The general being most calm and actually inclusive. The LGBTQ+ was discussing a singular topic forever and wouldn't change off. Then the support room was having an argument and the mod didn't do anything to cool it down. Both were stressful. I joined because I wanted to talk to people like me. And I get that after being here a while you get to know people. But, It would be nice to be able to chat openly with other newcomers outside of the forum.
@Beks4427
I agree it would be nice to have a chat that's not too fast or topic focused or busy
good suggestion about having a chatroom for newbies to get to know one other
I don't remember if there is already but maybe @ASilentObserver or @7cupscommunity can help us
@Optimisticempath
Hi Beks, the idea of having a newbie room is a good idea in theory. Having others connect who are new, who are still learning platform does offer a great way to meet new people. The challenge of just having one room that is set to that would bring the challenge of moderating it as well. As you know we have a Community Moderator that is on duty every hour of the day overlooking all the group chat rooms which would be one person who could moderates this room. We would want to have our volunteer moderators be there to help with the matters. If the room was set to new people of the community, then these other moderators would not be able to join at all. Resulting in a room with no moderation which can result in disruption.
@7CupsCommunity
Sorry to be a little abrupt but some rooms even with moderators "present" aren't very much appropriate or inclusive either , so it is an issue with moderators being around as well, nothing much different here tbh! π
rooms are badge locked from what I have seen so it seems possible to allow the Mods in this potential new room too , and help with the moderation activity I guess??
Nice to meet you tho, and I hope to see you around :)
@Beks4427 i agree with you
@Beks4427
I find myself missing certain features as well. I understand that members can only message listeners in private conversations. Simply because that is part of the concept of 7cups.
I imagine 7cups to prefer overseeing chatrooms and such, to make sure we don't share contact information, or move conversations to any other platform. That being said, I do wish there was a way for members to chat exclusively with each other.
I have tried the sharing circle. It is a great space, but for me, it has a limited use. Sometimes you may feel a positive connection with a certain member, but there is no efficient way to keep in touch. I see this potential for connection between members, but no efficient tool for organizing long term communication. I don't find the forum to be the best arena for keeping a conversation going.
@Sib88 I agree
Tbh I've found some members to be more supportive and kind than some listeners too π and would very much like keeping in touch with them more
I have a forum diary sort of here where I can talk to some of them at times :) maybe you can try a forum diary space too? It isn't same as real time chat but the next best option I feel β€
@Optimisticempath
I have the same experince as well! It is a tricky affair π
That idea is lovely. Do you mean by designating a forum post for this very purpose?
@Sib88 yes Haha xD I know :'(
Yes a forum post for it, you can tag people you want to comment there
just for example you can check out some diaries in general support community

@Optimisticempath
Thank you for explaining it to me, that is a superb idea. I will lok into it!
Lots of love : )
@Beks4427
im right there with you Beks, I wish there was a nubie room as well.
The Sharing Circle, The Support Room 24/7, and The Member Community Room are all part of the newbie hub. I'm sorry that you've had a few bad experiences in the chatrooms. In the LGBT room, they might've been having a hosted discussion, which does need to stay on topic. Check for a banner at the top of the chatroom because it should say if there is. It won't always be like that. There's open chat more often than not. I enjoy the chatrooms immensely. There's usually a good deal of warmth, encouragement, silliness, and friendship to be found within. I hope you'll give it another try. Just say hello, introduce yourself, and throw out an icebreaker if you're having a hard time jumping in. I'll keep an eye out for you guys too.
@GoldenNest2727 you know you're awesome right?? Always so welcoming and helpful Golden β€β€
@GoldenNest2727 you cant really have a conversation when there are 10-15 people talking at the same time, everybody discussing their own subject matter, the bigger the crowd the faster the chat moves, which is confusing, frustrating and anxiety inducing. which is the general tone for General Support, and Sharing Circle, LGBTQ/MOGII on the other hand, is not an inclusive chat, it's hostile towards heteronormative people who show up there from time to time, and are ridiculed for their 'straightness'
@antico
Gosh, I love a fast moving chat with lots of people and convos. I have no problem focusing on those I want to chat with and picking up bits of talk here and there from others while jumping in as I can. I think I'm rare, though, and most feel more like you do. The world is heteronormative, neurotypical, etc so I don't begrudge those communities from having their own space. They seem fairly inclusive and welcoming when I've popped in, but we each have our own experiences, and maybe I just got lucky. No one has the right to ridicule you for any reason, regardless of which space you're in. You could try muting the offenders.
When chats are busy, trying saying hello to one specific person you see. It could be a newbie or someone more seasoned. Trying saying hi, asking how they're doing, and getting a conversation going that way. Focus on one or two people at a time. Ask them questions to start.
If you're looking for support, rather than lighthearted chatter, try the Support Room 24/7. Be direct. Try something like, "hello, guys. I'm new here and could really use some support," or something similar.
@antico
Can you pop into the Support Room 24/7 right now? It's not that busy. I'm in there and would love to chat with you.
@GoldenNest2727
Hello, Gold. Just wanted to say, thank you for being so welcoming and supporting in the chat room. I didn't get a chance to say good night, as I had an interruption. But hope to see you soon!
@Sib88
That's so kind of you to say! I enjoyed chatting with you and hope to see you around again.
thanks for posting, i agree
Me too , I'm new here too , i hope you're doing well.
@Beks4427 Sounds like a grand idea, send a note to the 7cups gods. Yeah the chatrooms can be a bit hectic sometimes for sure, sometimes the arguments are entertaining, but I can understand the need for a slower moving quieter stream to swim. Have a good one!
@Beks4427
I completely agree with you on this. One of the group chats I went to had someone cursing. They were also wishing somebody dead, which I would never agree with.
@Juniper000
Well, none of that is okay, and it's definitely against the chatroom rules. It's a shame that some people act impolite, but I hope you'll give the chatrooms another try because they're mostly full of wonderful people.
