It wasn't until I was properly diagnosed that I ever associated my sensory sensitivity, or hyper-vigilance, to the symptoms of PTSD- better known as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Many people with PTSD describe sensations of feeling overwhelmed by their environment. This might include bright lights, too many people talking, loud noises, or being touched. These difficulties can reach into all areas of our lives and go on to affect our relationships, our jobs, our families, and our friends. Many times these individuals are seen as different or withdrawn, when in all actuality we are likely exhausted, over-stimulated, or confused. Thank you so much for stopping by and taking the time to read my post. I think this is a topic that often gets overlooked, and like many other things in mental health, appears to be generally misunderstood. What brings you to this part of the Forum? Does someone you love live with PTSD?
