Suppressed memories

TheWanderer27 October 20th, 2017

Hey,

There seems to be some controversy over the idea of suppressed memories, and I was wondering how many other people on here have experienced suppressed memories resurfacing. Having experienced it myself, I believe it's a possibility, but I still have doubts over what I'm remembering is real or not, even though it feels real and my reactions are natural and all point towards supporting the memory being real. But obviously without other evidence, it is difficult to know for sure.

So, if you have experienced this, how do you deal with it? If you feel like you have suppressed memories, would you rather access them and know what's hidden? Or would you rather it stayed hidden?

Have a great day.

TW

@TheWanderer27

I have experienced repressed memories. I think it's a very real thing!

When I realised, I was very upset for a long time. It would've been nice for it to stay hidden but it's probably best to know what happened to me in my life and know that I've overcome a lot!

I agree. As difficult as it is, I would much rather know. Thanks for sharing.

@SilentSerenityy

That's true it's good to know , I guess it gets jammed into our subconscious for so long, my therapist reccomened letting these random memories if and when they surface to let them come ( she's thought me some grounding techniques to cope a bit ) .. so it's been helping I write them down some seem v significant and some don't make sense fully .

@energeticPenny8 Thanks for sharing. It's a long journey, I think, but we're not alone.

@TheWanderer27 I'm trying to figure the same thing out. Something happened, I feel it, it makes sense, but I have no idea. I can only relate one memory to it.

My therapist and acupuncturist believe that I am not quite strong enough to try to bring it to the service, right now. The question rides in my brain and on my shoulders every day.

@EnergySensitive It can be incredibly difficult to deal with, and there is the chance you will never know what happened. The most important thing is to take care of yourself. Remember you're not alone. And only you know how to deal with it in the best way for you.
