Traumatic Experiences Community Daily Check-in: Tuesday 25 July 2017
Heya guys! My name is Melody, and this the first check-in I'm doing, so I wanted to introduce myself
My name is Melody (obviously) and I've been a member of the Traumatic Experiences Subcommunity for a while. It holds a special place in my heart, especially after seeing what a close friend has had to experience because of trauma.
Now for the fun stuff! My questions for today are:
What's you favorite color? Why?
How are you?
If you could jump into a swimming pool full of anything, what would it be?
What's the best thing that's happened to you this week?

@Melody293 - Hi Melody! welcome to the trauma team๐. My favourite colour is red, just because it is a bright and upbeat colour. I am okay, just feeling a bit tired. I could quite happily jump into a swimming pool of gravel! I find the feeling of gravel underneath my feet strangely comforting and soothing. What's the best thing that happened this week? I was assertive, voicing my opinion within a public setting (hate public speaking!!).
@Amandisa16
Way to go Amandisa!!!!!
@Melody293 Hey Melody, welcome to the community -- happy Tuesday :)
What's you favorite color? Why?
I honestly don't know why -- aesthetically appeala to me. :)
How are you?
Loaded question. Honest answer: too many nightmares last night have sent my mind racing a million miles an hour in a million different directions today, taking my emotions along for the nauseating ride. Even though it feels awful at times, I'm doing my best to manage through coping skills and self care (even broke out the heavy artillery and ordered a pizza, my go-to comfort food heh).
If you could jump into a swimming pool full of anything, what would it be?
Saltwater (chlorine irritates my skin). Sorry/not sorry for the vanilla response. I'm a traditionalist when it comes to these sorts of things. ๐
What's the best thing that's happened to you this week?
As mentioned above, Iโโโโโโ ordered and ate pizza today. The week is still young, so hopefully this wasn't the peak. ๐
Whoops -- fav colour is purple. Autocorrect ate it for some reason
@melliotm
Purple and pizza.. nice!.As you say the week is still young so hoping for lots of good moments for you.
@Melody293
Hey Melody, thanks for doing this nice post.. I'm glad to have you with me.. and the differenece it makes is amazing! My favourite color is green... look at a rack of clothes and I always go for the green. I'm okay and just taking one day at a time. And I would be in the pool with three pups who all love to swim. There'd be lots of splashing and leaping up and down (them not me) and fun.
@rozie A pool full of pups. Eureka. Now why didn't I think of that?
I messed up. Kinda bad. I don't think there's any coming back from that. I'm stuck in London until Thursday afternoon and then I'm stuck on a stupid 8hr flight back home and I was trying so hard but it still wasn't good enough for them and then I just snapped and went off on my brother and gramma in this stupid pub I didn't want to be at in the first place and then I stormed out and walked over a mile back to the hotel on my own because the only thought I had before I started walking was "f*ck you, I know the way back". Now I'm sitting on the bed in the hotel room I'm sharing with my grandmother who paid for this whole trip just dreading the moment she walks through that door and wishing I had someone I could call because I really need someone right now.
As a side note, if you're walking through a city on your own after 10pm, and you look like you will literally punch someone in the face if they even look at you, nobody's gonna mess with you. The sidewalk will split to let you through. Even if you're a foreigner and have been in that city all of two days.
@BeeLeigh
Sounds like you've mastered London! That don't mess with me look will keep you safe :)
Seriously though Bee, I'm sorry to hear your evening didn't quite work out how you'd like, but we all lose our temper sometimes. Do you feel like you want to apologise, or are you still boiling inside? Sometimes a simple but heartfelt sorry is enough. If your grandma paid for the whole trip, she must love you dearly. And want to spend time with you. So she may have felt momentarily unappreciated, but you have until Thursday to put that right. Try and put it behind you, and enjoy what sounds like a wonderful break - though sorry you missed our summer, which happened about three weeks ago for ten days! ๐ฌ๐ง ๐โโ๏ธ๐ฆ๐
@DeborahUK
Honestly, I want an apology from them, but it's been over an hour since I got back to the hotel, and no one's tried to contact me so I just know they're sitting there talking about me and how I always ruin everything and why can't I just be happy with what I have cuz anyone else would and why do I have to make everything so difficult and blah blah blah. I went on a stupid Jack the Ripper tour even though I REALLY didn't want to go, because my gramma wanted to. There was a lot of walking to various areas and then just standing around. The walking wasn't so bad, but the just standing there started to really make my knees hurt. What made it even worse is that the group was too big so we couldn't even really hear the guide. So I was just irritated with the whole thing, but I was there and doing the best I could. I really tried. But it lets off at the Sherlock Holmes pub near Trafalgar Square, and when we got in there, my gramma kinda angrily dug through her purse and whipped out a
@BeeLeigh
Maybe they are talking about you, maybe in a concerned way, or maybe they're reflecting on their day out. Who knows eh? I know when you're in the thick of a family row it feels really ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ต๐ช, but think of tomorrow as a new day.
There must be something about London. I was there a few weeks ago and also had a bit of a family spat! So you're not alone in that. I guess that's the thing with family holidays, and being forced to spend a lot of time with other adults with different likes and dislikes. It can be joyous, but also annoying as hell. I hope you're all able to put it behind you, and the holiday ends up as one of mainly happy memories.
How were Dublin and Paris anyway? I was away on holiday myself last week, so I've missed any updates you posted.
@DeborahUK
They came back to the hotel and actually invited me down to the hotel bar and my brother actually apologized and said they'd talked to my gramma and calmed her down. She blows money on food and drinks when she's upset though, so I know she's at least a little upset cuz she's insisted this whole time the only thing she won't buy is alcohol and she bought anything and everything tonight.
Dublin was great, we could've spent more time there! Paris was nice, but we had a really hard time communicating because it seemed like no one spoke English. Disneyland Paris was pretty cool! I have a great pic of the Eiffel Tower I took at night whe me and my brother and his girlfriend walked down there around 11:30pm. It didn't get all sparkly until we were up there, but it's lit up in the pic. Notre Dame is beautiful. The Louvre...it has some really nice stuff in it but we planned on staying longer and we cut our tour a bit short because...I'm a female and my body decided the beginning of our tour was a great time to remind me of that. London's been decent enough. The tours we've been on have all been for different things but they've driven essentially the same areas. It's been pretty good. For some reason I found French more frustrating than I found German last summer though lol.
@BeeLeigh
I'm glad things have worked out okay :)
Your holiday sounds lovely, though I get the impression you're a bit nonplussed by London? The city tour buses are quite handy, because they go round all the main landmarks and you can hop on, hop off, take in the sights, listen to the commentary, and if different people are interested in different things, there tends to be something for everyone. Just a thought, but of course, you should do your thing. Wishing you a safe flight home ๐
@DeborahUK
Nah, not the hop on/hop off busses. Those are actually useful. We're doing tours through Monograms. We got here Sunday and we've done the Jack the Ripper thing, some Beatles thing, St Paul's Cathedral, Tower of London, Buckingham Palace and basically got driven around and looked at the exact same things to the point I actually know the names on the statues and I can tell you that Eros is in Piccadilly Circus, which is nearly a straight shot to my hotel since I'm practically on the Thames at Westminster Bridge across from Parliament. I've been here two days and I can walk back to my hotel from almost anywhere we've been (though, I'm by the London Eye, so I've got several landmarks working to my advantage there). Idk. It's like an old Chicago with British accents (I've also heard about the big fire here about as often as I've heard about the Great Chicago Fire back home, which isn't helping the mental comparison). We did get massages at our hotel though. That was nice. That and Cheese & Onion pringles and our tour rep at this hotel are putting London in the lead (London will definitely win overall if I can find Coconut Ritter Sport!). Paris wins for weather and cheapest souvenirs that were actually decent. Dublin wins for legit food. Their burgers are amazing. Sorry lol. We also made our own whiskey at the Jameson Distillery, so, kinda hard to beat that! ๐
@DeborahUK
To be fair to London, though, I've noticed a downturn in my mental status lately and I've been a little extra negative, so I think it may be partially bad timing ๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ
@BeeLeigh
You sound like you need hugs after you punch some punching bags โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ I hope something lovely happens this evening to brighten up your day!
@singercrystalspirit
I kinda did wanna hit something, but I just brushed my teeth and got ready for bed instead. Then my last post to Deb happened. We've only got one more day here and then our flight out is some time a little after noon on Thursday so I just need to last another like day and a half ๐๐ป
@BeeLeigh
Incidentally, you're up late. Are you still adjusting to the time difference?
@DeborahUK
Hey, you're up just as late :P
This is about as late as I'm up at home so I think I did actually adjust this time lol. Last year we didn't adjust at all and we were just napping whenever we weren't doing something!
@BeeLeigh
Haha! Seems I'm on U.S. time!
Sounds like you could get a job as a London tour guide, or maybe a food critic? I'm a great one for food, but never come across a coconut Ritter sport. I can see I need to keep my eyes peeled for this flavour sensation :)
@DeborahUK
I can't tell you how many times I've heard that London is two cities and 31 boroughs. And if we drive past those silver dragons indicating you're entering the City of London again, I may point them out before the guide has a chance to ๐๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ
What's you favorite color? Why?
My favorite color is purple. I don't really have a reason.
How are you?
Right now? Bleh. I'm anxious.
If you could jump into a swimming pool full of anything, what would it be?
Warm tingly feelings and cuddles
What's the best thing that's happened to you this week?
Um... nothing.
@Melody293
Hey Melody I'm Arianna it's so nice to meet you! Well my favorite color is... Pink!!! and I love pink because it is so pretty and feminine! I am doing great today! I am watching Criminal Minds and strolling through these forums so all in all it's a good, relaxing day. If I had to jump in a pool of something it would probably be... A pool full of talking dolphins so I could swim and talk to them all day!
@AriannaPink
Oops sorry didn't see the last question. Um from what I can recall 2 good things happened this week. First last Friday my cousin came over and we watched the premiere of Descendants 2 (we love that series). Then Saturday my other cousin's birthday party and that was a lot of fun! There was a DJ and a photo booth so it was pretty awesome! I think that's pretty much all for this week though :)
@AriannaPink Hello Arianna! Ahh a pull full of talking dolphins sound so fun! And I love the color pink as well
@Melody293
Well dolphins are a amazing animal! Oh my gosh you like pink too??? Ya know what? I think we're gonna become great friends Melody!
Hey Melody, you have done well on your first post
What's you favorite color? My favourite colour is purple. And I have recently decorated by Bedroom which also features Purple
How are you? Am tired as my dog who had an upset tum last night kept me up all night but looks like we are over the worst now :)
If you could jump into a swimming pool full of anything, Probably diet coke and a ton of ice, that way I could swim whilst taking refreshments lol
What's the best thing that's happened to you this week? A lovely teen listener sent me a lovely message of appreciation which I did not expect and I so respected the time they took to do it, and it meant a lot.
@Melody293
@Melody293
Great check in Melody, and welcome to our little corner of 7 cups :)
So, favourite colour has to be black, though I'm liking grey too. Always being berated for my lack of summeryness!
How am I? Pretty good really. Just need to get off to sleep ready to face the next day, but browsing the internet keeps delaying that :)
That swimming pool, it would be full of warm, bubbly water. I've always been a water baby, so I couldn't think of a nicer treat - or maybe melted chocolate. Mmmmm
The best thing this last week? Well, I had a few days away relaxing in a hot tub (that water theme again). It wasn't just a hot tub, there was accommodation too, but the hot tub was my highlight! And I completely appreciated the moment. A nice drink, a good book, sun shining, warm water, no work - heaven!
@Melody293
Turquoise because it's calming, peaceful and reminds me of the ocean ad diving.
If I could jump into a big pool of the ocean and all it's incredible creatures, I'm so there. Alternately, Turquoise paint :)
The best thing that happened to me lately is a glorious week without wake ups or nightmares.
