Hi Trauma Familysmiley hope you are all well. At work last week I was talking with a colleague of mine about a demonstration that was happening nearby. To my suprise this softly spoken timid woman suddenly became extremely fiery, as she shared how she and a few other mothers had handcuffed themselves to the gates of the local Primary School! This was because the school was about to be closed down, she was absolutely livid! These "feisty mothers" decided that they would do everything they could to keep this school open. She said this, "Coming from a background where I did not have the educational opportunities that others had, the education of children is of the utmost importance to me, I want them to have the opportunities that were not offered to me".

We all have causes that are close to our hearts, things that we are really pasionate about. Things that we want to change in our society and communities. So what causes do people become passionate about?

Here are some examples:

*Domestic Violence,

*The Prevention of Child Abuse,

*The environment,

*Racial Injustice,

*Gay Rights.

Some causes will be very personal to the individual, for example the Cancer Research "Race for Life Event" is run by hundreds maybe thousands of women each year. Many of these women have battled through Cancer themeselves, or have lost someone close to them to Cancer. Our Traumas can also birth a new passion in us to see justice, freedom, rights and change etc.

So what are some of the causes that I am passionate about? The prevention of child abuse, Homelessness, Animal Welfare, and Human Trafficking. How about you?

1) What cause(s) are close to your heart?

2) Is there anything that you would like to share with us about this cause?

3) Was the passion for this cause birthed out of a traumatic experience that you suffered?

Maybe you don't feel passionate about any cause right now, that's okay too. Tell us how your day has been, we would love to hear from you.heart

@Amandisa16 good morning Amanda heart

1) What cause(s) are close to your heart?

Child abuse prevention, domestic violence, sexual abuse prevention ... actually, all of the ones you mentioned above and more are close to my heart, but these two kind of seem to are very close.

3) Was the passion for this cause birthed out of a traumatic experience that you suffered?

I definitely think so. I feel like if you experience such things by yourself you get more emphaty towards the others who are experiencing it, because you know how it feels and you dont want these people to go through what you had to go through alone.

Great check in Amanda heart how was your wednesday/how is it going?

Wishing everyone a lovely day!

@Hope3729

Hi Hopesmiley, yes these causes are so important, and I completely agree with what you said about "empathy". If you have been through something, you know how it feels, you've walked in that person's shoes. I suppose this is how our scars can end up becoming "healing balms" to others.

I'm having a good Wednesday so far Hope, and I hope you have a lovely day tooheart

I am passionate about mental health support, within families especially. Most of the abuse I have suffered has come from other people's mental health issues and problems. Trauma is in some ways inevitable in life and mental health issues prevalent, giving support to the people who need it will help prevent the effects spreading to those around them and give coping mechanisms to help deal with it.

@Lilibuth12

Hi Lilismiley, yes mental health support is so important! Your post really made me think, It should be really obvious to me, but I never really thought about the fact that alot of abuse can come from other people's mental health issues. I like what you said about mental health support also being used as a "preventative measure", to stop spreading the effects to those around them. Very insightfulheart

Hi Amandisa and everybody else...

Hope you're all having a good day 😊

Sooo, I can get very passionate about a lot of things, especially when somebody's rights aren't respected, that applies to human-, animal- and nature- rights just the same... Well, for me we are all children of this planet, we are only guests here... It's our duty to take care of everybody/everything who/which can't defend their rights themselves... Well, I'm a calm and peaceful person, but some things make even me angry, like when people are stepped on because of anything that marks them as not 'normal', not like society would like them to be... And well, society isn't quite picky about hating somebody, may it be because of gender, colour, sexuality, religion or just cause your nose is too big and your hair too long... There are so many prejudices in this world and I just hate it that awesome people prefer to hide from this world cause they are hated and judged for who they are... And I hate how humanity is destroying nature, extincting whole species without thinking about the consequences for the whole planet... Even the tiniest animal, the tiniest bacteria has it's purpose, that's why our planet is full of miracles, if one thing is missing, the whole environment doesn't work anymore... Besides that there my trauma related topics, I'm fighting for children's rights, for child abuse awareness, for mental health awareness, against violence, against sexual abuse... So, that's about what I'm passionate about 😊 and I want to add that I think the world would be a better place if it were a bit more like our trauma family, just caring for each other, that would be great start...

@courteousNorth5140

Hi Courteoussmiley I agree with everything that you have said, thank you for sharing. It is our duty to take care of everybody and to defend their rights, unfortunately this does not happen for many, and as you said "awesome people prefer to hide from this world cause they are are hated and judged for who they are".

Childrens Rights, Child Abuse Awareness, Mental Health Awareness, Anti-violence, against Sexual Violence. These are all great and worthy causes to be passionate about. I'm hoping that in years to come that we will see some great advances in these areas, in terms of awareness and prevention.heart

1) What cause(s) are close to your heart?
a. Mental health awareness and reducing the stimga around mental illness.
b. Air ambulance charities

2) Is there anything that you would like to share with us about this cause?
b. The people who work on the air ambulances are so wonderful and their work is life saving heart In the UK there is a series on channel4 showing the work they do.

3) Was the passion for this cause birthed out of a traumatic experience that you suffered?
Yes, the air ambulance saved my dad's life and took care of me too. Some of my mental health problems have been caused by my experiences and others have been made worse. I want people to feel like they can speak out about their problems, I don't want anyone suffer in silence anymore, we all deserve to feel well and to be loved for who we are.

(With that said I still don't tell anyone about my own problems, the conditioning is hard to break)

Love and hugs to all heart

@FloweringBunny

Hi Bunnysmiley it's great that Mental Health Awareness and reducing the stigma around mental illness, is one of your passions. This week is Mental Health Awareness Week in England. Prince Harry, William and other Celebs broadcasted a minute long message about mental health awareness. I thought this was a really positive thing, as they were trying to do something to break the stigma around mental illness.

Thank you for mentioning about the Air Ambulances, I don't really think about them, I suppose they are the unseen heroes. It's great that they were used to save your dads life and also took care of you. I agree that none of us should have to suffer in silence, but as you said it can sometimes be dificult to tell people your own problems. I suppose it's sometimes easier to give support than to receive it. Thanks for sharing Bunnyheart

@Moonberrycat

Hi Moonberrysmiley gay rights, autism acceptance, chronic illness awareness, and mental health awareness, great causes. You mentioned that your passion for Chronic Ilness Awareness and Mental Health Awareness were a result of what you yourself had experienced. I would love to see more awareness of not only Mental Health but Chronic Illness. There are so many people who are in constant pain, a few years ago I became ill and was in pain for nearly 24 hours. Never experienced anything like that before! So my heart really goes out to you and others that suffer from Chronic Pain every day. Thanks for sharingheart

@Amandisa16

I am incredibly passionate about mental health education and advocacy and trauma informed care.

I have some plans in the mental health advocacy area specifically. I told some of them to someone at the mental health center today and he was floored by how awesome my plan it. Short story it's about getting mental health into the public school system in America. I have others but mostly right now I want trauma informed care in schools with children, and for children to know how to cope with their emotions and mental health concerns/trauma/suicidal thoughts as they get older. I am learning so much about trauma and I'm actually starting to become slightly angry at the system for not helping me sooner, and that I've never had any trauma therapy and my entire existance can basically be summed up by trauma, except for at the same time I beat most statistics that trauma is associated with. I have an ACE score of 9 out of 10 and I graduated college during a huge mental health crisis and the only thing associated with that high of an ACE score I deal with is mental health, and so I think mental health professionals should give me more credit.

@InvaderStitch

Hi InvaderStitchsmiley really pleased that you received such a positive response to your ideas/plans. This must of been so encouraging and affirming for you. Mental heallth education, advocacy and trauma informed care, are all such important causes. I am a particular fan of Trauma Informed Care, at work we are trying to use this approach with our clients. It would be amazing if it was introduced into schools, I remember watching a programme about a 10 year old boy that was on anti-depressants for depression. His school were considering employing full time counsellors, so that the children could talk about how they were feelings/problems etc. What you were saying about children being taught how to cope with their emotions, and mental health concerns is so important..

InvaderStitch despite your trauma and mental health issues you graduated college. This is really inspirational, and a real encouragement for those that might feel as if they are struggling right now. Thank you so much for sharingheart
