life in EMS

Medic07 March 31st, 2015

My job stress is a little different than some people. I work at an ambulance service in a small rural town but we get our fair share of "bad calls". Our service does have things to help us with the bad calls they have debriefing. Sometimes that just really is enough. I personally try to walk and other healthy things to get my stress or anxiety out. I really wish that worked all the time. Somethings at work still haunt me.

Does the department you work for offer any kind of counseling services? I would contact your supervisor or human resources and ask, they are typically provided free of charge.

@Medic07

Sorry I am sooo late to reply on this one. Only recently started to participate some in this forum (I've been paramedic for 10 years now) Thank you for sharing some tips to help get through the bad calls. I totally understand how haunting some of these calls can be though <3

I feel that. I also work for a rural ambulance service. My story is pretty much identical. The industry gives lip services to mental health but that's all. I seek mental health support but they all lead back to a help yourself and exercise approach. The ghosts are there for most, if not all of us after a while, I wish there was a better answer then debrief and just try to move on.
