Project Military Recovery

I’m fairly new here, I joined awhile back, but I’m not real sure how to navigate the forums. My son was traumatically amputated while in the military. I left my life to recover with him in a military medical hospital for over a year. It’s been 5 years, but every year when it gets close to the time it happened, I have great difficulties with anxiety and flash backs. Being in the hospital is bad enough, but military recovery adds a whole other element to it all, so grateful for it, but it was absolutely terrible and horrific at the same time. I’m not sure what I’m looking for, I guess a listening ear. I’ve done therapy and medications, they just don’t seem to help much. God Bless all who take the time to read this! 🙏🤗💞

@Faith911 Hi. It sounds like you are a wonderful mother, taking the time to be there at your son's side while he recovered! It is understandable that this would be a very difficult experiance and I am sorry to hear that it has taken such a toll on you.It looks like you are navigating the forums well but if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Hello, Faith,

My sincere condolences. I can’t begin to imagine what it must be like to nurse your son back to health after something like that. For you my heart.

The good news is that trauma is highly treatable. Have you considered finding a new therapist, maybe one that’s trained in EMDR? I hear it assists in safe reprocessing so we can file away our experiences and truly move forward instead of feeling triggered or experiencing flashbacks. This is something I want to investigate myself. Do keep in mind trauma is a specialty area, as is military personnel, and just because someone is licensed doesn’t mean they’re qualified.

Your original post was about a year ago. How are you feeling now? 💕
