What is your favorite childhood toy or stuffed animal?

soulsings May 13th, 2022

Childhood can leave us with powerful memories sometime of difficult times that we learned to cope with somehow.

  1. When you were a child, what is one or more toys or stuffed animals or dolls that gave you comfort when you felt stressed?
  2. If you have a picture of one like it, feel free to include.

@soulsings His name was Grandpa Pooh, he was an old Winnie the Pooh stuffed animal with overalls and bushy eyebrows. My mother once tried to sell him in a garage sale and I panicked and removed him from the bin and put him in my room. Then I lost him on a trip and haven't seen him since. It was very traumatic for me to lose him and I still cry about it to this day. I do suspect that my mother got rid of him or lost him on purpose because that's just the type of thing she'd do. I replaced him with Giraffe(e) and still cuddle him every night.

@AutisticDragon I lost my cat stuffed animal. I cannot remember when he disappeared. Maybe suffered the same fate as your Pooh did. I guess parents may try to help their kids grow up too fast sometimes.

I had a few American Girl dolls. Three actually. I still have them somewhere.

My favorites were my cabbage patch kid dolls when I was little. Then when I was 10 my mom bought me a $300 doll from a fancy doll sop named Pika. I still have my doll but my mom passed away when I was 16💜

Why are we given such difficult prompts? Like whoa I have think about my whole childhood and dig through all the trauma to unearth my favourite toy! I might as well have been asked to climb Mount Everest lol.

My favorite was a pillow case. I was holding it the whole day when I was a child. I always put it to a safe place than one day my drunk father came home and throwed it to the fire place. Later on I got a new pillow case, wasn’t the same smell but got used to it. It ended up in the same place. Now I have my favorite pillow case since at least 10 years. Nobody will ever take it away from me. And I also have a pillow heart. And my dog likes to roll over on them. Haha

@kala

Growing up with a parent suffering from addiction is hard and I can only imagine the pain you felt when the object that gave you comfort as a child was thrown into the fire. Nice that you got a favorite pillow as well as a pillow heart again, it seems it also gives your dog comfort!

Yeah the pain felt like someone died in my family. I could not sleep for days just crying. Yes my dog really likes it. He is always rolling on it. I just have to tell him not to bite it. 😃 @amiablePeace77

@kala

The pillow has your smell and Archie (think that was his name right?) might love the softness of it. It might be something that gives him comfort when you have to go out and can't take him with you.

@kala sorry your dad was so insensitive. He must have been in a lot of pain and suffering to act out so meanly.

Glad you get comfort from your pillow case now.

@soulsings I am not sure what kind of pain he had but he had a beautiful wife and 2 nice children. So much memories about him and I can’t really recall a good one.
