The Gratitude Project: List 3 Things That You Are Grateful For...
by LisaMeighanMScGMBPsS

...See more Hi there, Today we will learn a little more about gratitude and learn how to express this. Studies have shown that if you practice daily gratitude practice, it can make you feel happier and improve your health. What is Gratitude? Gratitude is the expression of appreciation for what one already has and not ones future desires or hopes. It is generated from within. This social emotion strengthens relationships, and its roots run deep in evolutionary history, and it stems from the survival value of helping others and being helped in return. Studies show that specific areas of the brain are involved in experiencing and expressing gratitude. Brain scans of people assigned a task that stimulates gratitude show lasting changes in the prefrontal cortex that heighten sensitivity to future experiences of gratitude, thus feeling happier and healthier. Please list 3 things that you are grateful for and share daily if you feel comfortable to do so!

Day 16: Embracing Change: Lessons from the Past Year
by SoulfullyAButterfly
Last post
...See more As the year draws to a close, it’s a perfect time to reflect on how change has shaped us. While it can be uncomfortable, even difficult, change often brings with it valuable lessons and a chance to grow in ways we never imagined. Lessons from Change Change teaches us resilience, flexibility, and the importance of letting go of what no longer serves us. It encourages us to embrace uncertainty and trust that even the most difficult transitions can lead to something meaningful. Whether it’s starting a new chapter, saying goodbye to an old one, or simply adjusting to the ebb and flow of life, every shift carries an opportunity for reflection and learning. Sometimes, change forces us to confront fears or step outside our comfort zones. Other times, it gently nudges us toward something new and fulfilling. Either way, it’s through these moments that we grow stronger, wiser, and more self-aware. Celebrating Growth As we reflect on the year, let’s take a moment to acknowledge the changes we’ve experienced and the strength it took to navigate them. Whether you faced big life events or subtle shifts in perspective, every step counts. Celebrate how far you’ve come and the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Reflective Questions * What was the most significant change you experienced this year, and how did it impact you? * What lessons did you learn about yourself while navigating this change? * Was there a moment of growth that surprised you? * Is there a change you’ve been resisting that might be worth embracing in the year ahead? Feel free to share your reflections in the comments. Let’s support each other as we celebrate the courage it takes to embrace change and the growth it brings. Together, we can honor the lessons of the past year and step into the new one with confidence and hope. This post is part of the 25 Days of Gratitude, Self-Care, and Personal Growth event at 7 Cups! Day 21: Grateful for the Journey: Reflecting on 2024
by SoulfullyAButterfly
Last post

...See more Every year brings a mix of highs and lows, lessons learned, and memories made. While some moments may have challenged us, others reminded us of the beauty and joy life has to offer. Looking back, it’s not just about the big milestones but also the small victories and the ways we’ve grown. Gratitude for the journey doesn’t mean every moment was perfect; it means recognizing the value in each experience and the strength it took to get here. Finding Gratitude in the Year Gone By 2024 may have brought new opportunities, deepened relationships, or moments of personal growth. It might also have presented obstacles that required resilience and courage. Gratitude allows us to honor both - the triumphs and the struggles - acknowledging that each played a role in shaping who we are today. As you reflect on this year, think about the moments that made you smile, the people who stood by you, and the lessons that helped you grow. These reflections can remind us to celebrate not just the destination, but the journey itself. Looking Forward with Gratitude Gratitude for the past helps us step into the new year with clarity and hope. By appreciating what 2024 has taught us, we can carry those lessons forward and embrace what lies ahead with open hearts and minds. Reflective Questions * What are some moments from 2024 that you’re most grateful for, and why? * What challenges did you face this year, and how did they contribute to your personal growth? * As you look toward 2025, what lessons or habits from this year do you want to carry forward? Let’s take this time to share our reflections and gratitude for the journey of 2024. Whether it was a year of growth, healing, or new beginnings, every step was part of your unique path. Day 13: People Who Made My Year Special
by SoulfullyAButterfly
Last post

...See more As the year comes to a close, it's natural to look back on the moments that shaped us. While achievements, challenges, and milestones often stand out, it's the people around us who truly leave a lasting impact. Whether they offered a listening ear, a kind word, or simply their presence, these individuals have made the year brighter and more meaningful. Celebrating the Special People in Our Lives Sometimes, it’s the little things - like a friend who sent an encouraging text when you needed it most or a colleague who made workdays more enjoyable, that can transform an ordinary moment into something extraordinary. Other times, it might be a mentor who guided you through a difficult decision or a family member who supported you unconditionally. These connections remind us that life isn’t just about what we do but also about the relationships we build. They’re a source of strength, joy, and growth, teaching us that we’re never truly alone. Practicing Gratitude for These Connections The end of the year is a wonderful opportunity to express gratitude for the people who’ve made a difference in our lives. A simple “thank you” or thoughtful gesture can go a long way in showing your appreciation. Whether it’s writing a heartfelt note, giving them a call, or even sharing a memory with them, acknowledging their impact can strengthen these bonds and make both of you feel valued. Reflect and Celebrate Together Let’s take a moment to celebrate these connections together. Share your stories about the people who’ve made your year special, no matter how big or small their impact was. Let this post be a space for gratitude, love, and recognition for those who’ve touched our lives. These people can be on 7 Cups and/or in other life areas. Reflective Questions * Who are three people who made your year special, and how did they impact your life? * What’s one moment with someone that made you feel deeply grateful this year? * How can you show appreciation to those who’ve supported or inspired you this year? * Reflecting on these relationships, what lessons have you learned about connection, kindness, or gratitude? Feel free to share your thoughts and stories in the comments below. Let’s end the year by celebrating the people who remind us of the beauty in connection and community. Day 12: The "What Went Well" Technique
by SoulfullyAButterfly
Last post
December 14th
...See more As the holiday season approaches, many of us find ourselves reflecting on the year gone by. One simple yet powerful technique that can help us maintain a positive perspective during this time is the "What Went Well" Technique, also called "3 Good Things" What is the "What Went Well" Technique? Founded by Dr. Martin Seligman, the "What Went Well" method is a gratitude exercise designed to boost life satisfaction and reduce depression. By reflecting on and writing down three positive events from your day, this practice encourages you to focus on the positive, cultivating a deeper sense of appreciation for life's small victories. How to Practice the "What Went Well" Technique 1) Choose a Consistent Time: Pick a regular time each day to reflect, whether it’s at the end of your day, during a quiet moment, or before bed. This consistency helps you make it part of your routine. 2) Pause and Reflect: Take a moment to think about your day. Look back and identify three positive things, no matter how big or small. They could be something you accomplished, a nice interaction you had, or even a moment of peace. 3) Write Down Your Reflections: Jot down each of the three positive events in a journal or on a piece of paper. Be specific: describe what happened, where it happened, and what made it meaningful to you. 4) Dig Deeper: After noting the events, take a few more moments to reflect on why these moments were positive and how they made you feel. This adds a deeper layer to your gratitude and helps reinforce the benefits of focusing on the good. Why this Technique Can Help You - Gratitude, Self-Care, and Personal Growth The act of reflecting on the positives is a powerful form of self-care. It nurtures a sense of peace and satisfaction, especially when life feels stressful. Practicing gratitude helps us appreciate the present, even when we feel like there’s so much more to do. Plus, focusing on the positives can have long-term benefits for our emotional well-being, reducing stress and enhancing our ability to handle life's challenges. The "What Went Well" technique is not just about being grateful for the present, but also about recognizing how far we’ve come. Reflecting on your growth over the holidays and the past year can bring clarity and motivation as you move forward. This practice encourages a mindset of progress, helping us feel empowered as we set new goals for the year ahead. Ready to Practice? As you practice the "What Went Well" technique this holiday season, consider these questions to deepen your reflections: * What are three positive things that happened today, no matter how small? * How did these moments make you feel, and why are they important to you? * What positive events in the past year do you feel most grateful for, and how did they contribute to your personal growth? * How can focusing on gratitude this holiday season enhance your self-care routine? I encourage you to take a few minutes each day, especially during the holidays, to reflect on and write down three things that went well. We are here to help you reflect and celebrate your growth!  This post is part of the 25 Days of Gratitude, Self-Care, and Personal Growth event at 7 Cups! Day 9 Cultivating Optimism: Turning Difficult Moments into Opportunities
by Hope
Last post
December 12th
...See more Hi everyone! I hope you are doing well. This post is part of the 25 Days of Gratitude, Self-Care, and Personal Growth event at 7 Cups! Let's dive in! Life has its challenges. Therefore problem is the path, obstacle is the way. If you take away all the time spent dealing with problems, you will realize that is most of life removed. Therefore it is important to learn to tackle challenges in a way where we don’t wait for life to start after dealing with a specific problem or set of problems. I am reminded of this quote often when I am once again tempted to spend life hoping for a better day to start living.  “How strange it is, our little procession of life! The child says, "When I am a big boy." But what is that? The big boy says, "When I grow up." And then, grown up, he says, "When I get married." But to be married, what is that after all? The thought changes to "When I'm able to retire." And then, when retirement comes, he looks back over the landscape traversed; a cold wind seems to sweep over it; somehow he has missed it all, and it is gone. Life, we learn to late, is in the living, in the tissue of every day and hour.” ― Stephen Leacock This perspective is important because it helps us appreciate the value of optimism. One skill that will take you far in life is practicing optimism, not to be mistaken with toxic positivity. Optimism is a balanced approach that acknowledges challenges while focusing on potential positive outcomes. Toxic positivity, however, dismisses or suppresses negative emotions, pushing for a “positive vibes only” mindset that can make people feel invalidated. While optimism is realistic and accepting, toxic positivity ignores the full range of human experience.  I am reminded of another quote, this one by Mark Twain 'I've suffered a great many catastrophes in my life. Most of them never happened.' Having an optimistic perspective, ensures you are not borrowing grief from the future. Maybe the thing you are worrying about will not turn out as bad as you are thinking or maybe it will but regardless of what happens, what good will worrying do? Optimism frees you of this excessive trouble and it gives you hope, giving you some relief.  Changing perspective requires hard work and more importantly consistent work. Here are some ways you can retrain your brain to think more positively * Keep a gratitude journal, and write down three things that went well every day, no matter how small * Learn about cognitive distortions and how they are impacting your life. We have a series on it, you can access it here.  [https://www.7cups.com/forum/siteupdates/HopesCorner_2162/Learningaboutcognitivedistortions_313974/] * Keep yourself busy! I am not saying that you should stop resting but it helps to have yourself engaged in meaningful activities so that you don’t have so much free time to ruminate about all that can go wrong.  * Focus on what lies in your control * Consistently read self-help books (Even a few lines every day, start small if you must) Optimism is a skill that I am still working on. Personally, self-help books have helped tremendously. I recommend starting there if you feel a bit lost.  Questions for you * What helps you cultivate optimism? * What is one-way practicing optimism has helped you? Book recommendations * Obstacle is the Way by Ryan Holiday * Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl * How to stop worrying and start living by Dale Carnegie  Additional resources How to Worry Less and Not Panic [https://www.7cups.com/forum/siteupdates/GlensNookCommunity_547/HowtoWorryLessandNotPanic_300790/] Optimism [https://www.7cups.com/forum/idg/ActingEnablingChange_2640/Optimism_337950/] ------------------------- This post is part of the 25 Days of Gratitude, Self-Care, and Personal Growth event at 7 Cups! What Would I Do Differently?
by Sel3ne

...See more Well, to begin with, I would not have wasted so much time thinking and believing, “I know better,” and adopting the mindset of “me against the world.” Instead, I should have been open-minded and listened to those who truly wanted the best for me. I don’t regret much in my life; otherwise, I wouldn’t be here today as the person I am now. However, having trust issues since childhood makes it difficult to know whom to trust. You end up trusting nobody and choosing to go your own way because you believe your way is “better.”   What would I do differently? I would listen. I would speak out instead of repressing my feelings, and I would do everything to ensure I am heard because, yes, I matter!

...See more Today I had to cope with a few work challenges at home. I'm very proud of myself that I could do it step by step and did not get stressed out. I strongly believe that the regular practise of mindfulness allowed me to stay calm. How is or was your day and what went well?
