My mental health being so bad is why I'm on disability. I cope by trying to maintain my most basic needs (eating a meal a day, drinking water, etc.), going on 7Cups, talking to my partner, and using coping skills like meditating and distractions.
@Zeraphim glad you are taking care of yourself. If you only have 1 meal a day that must be difficult. Are there any food pantries where you can supplement your diet.
Hugs if accepted.
@amiablePeace77
Routines help me cope with difficult challenges so I am not faced with the decision of what to do every minute of the day. I follow the routine and if it needs refining I refine it. It is not fixed in stone because I am flexible but it is a basic frame.work.
@soulsings
I can very much relate to what you said about routines. To me they are the anchor I need when things get very difficult.
@soulsings yeah routine definitely helps a lot of people, I'm glad it helps you ❤
@amiablePeace77 I’m not sure if I’m answering the question correctly. How mental health has affected my life is that I don’t feel confident I can trust my own mind. I can’t tell if I get upset about things that are abnormal, if I get a good or bad feeling about someone, if the way I react is ok, things like that. I don’t know if the way I am about certain things is my personality or a reaction to past trauma. I feel disoriented and depressed.
I forgot to answer what helps me cope. I used to have a few things that helped me, but they haven’t helped in a while. Now what helps is either distraction, or doing something productive that makes me feel like I’m working toward improving things for myself.
@PiecesOfWhoeverIWas
It must be hard to be in constant doubt about yourself. Traumatic experiences can have a strong impact on our life. The good thing is that we can learn to understand what we went through so it can be processed and will impact us less in future.
I am glad that distraction or doing something productive makes you feel like you're working toward improving things for yourself. Please remember that you're not alone, and there are people and resources available to support you here. You can always connect to a listener for a 1:1 chat and some comfort.
@PiecesOfWhoeverIWas hugs you tightly ❤ through everything you've been through and still are, your one strong lady ❤ hugs you tightly ❤ I love you
@amiablePeace77
I would too say that therapy helps, but I am focusing on learning about mental health and myself more.
@Wallis
Learning to help yourself (sometimes in addition to help from the outside) is always a great idea in my opinion. 👍
@Wallis that's awesome good luck sweetie ❤

What helps you to cope?
Helping others, being kind to others, treating others with ❤️ and respect. All of this doesn’t just apply to others either. It all pertains to myself too. Self care, being proud and happy with myself for who I am and all I’ve done and accomplished. And always being my authentic self no matter what and that includes who I’m around or where I am. Being grateful and appreciative. Accepting myself as I am no matter what.
All that and more helps me cope.
