Healthy internet use for well-being
Most people have heard that using the internet can lead to issues and even dependency.
Anything can be harmful if used incorrectly or excessively.
There are some good sides to the internet as well though.
Internet use may be associated with higher levels of life satisfaction, better self-reported health, and fewer symptoms of depression among adults aged over 50 in 23 countries, suggests a study published in Nature Human Behaviour. *
Internet use has a positive association with mental well-being among retired Americans aged 50 or older, as it reduces isolation and the probability of depression very significantly.

Seeking Help
Mental stress can cause us not to be able to see the good things in life and lead to excessive rumination or worries which can result in serious health problems. If you have serious, long-term problems with negative thinking and feeling depressed, see your doctor or talk to a therapist if they are related to any mental challenges.

@amiablePeace77 I use the internet to learn all about the world 😁 but I stay away from social media, this is the only site I get to talk to people ❤ the internet has really improved my life in theese ways ❤❤
" Remember they are called 'cell' phones for a reason, they imprison you "
@Tinywhisper11
Oh, yes! 😊 I still remember people saying that the internet is a gold mine and a rubbish dump at the same time. But I prefer it is more of the former, if navigated wisely 😊
Without the internet I would never have a chance to gain so much knowledge about my numerous hobbies, learn about so many interesting events and meet interesting people from both all over the country and all around the world. The recent possibility to talk to beings different than humans (I mean the AI) is just a icing on the cake.
@jacek73 yep! I'm glad it's helped you so much too ❤❤
@amiablePeace77 In what ways are you using the internet? I connect with people on 7 Cups and with family and friends.
How does it improve your well-being? It makes up for my introspective ways since I am more social on 7 Cups than in real life.

In what ways are you using the internet?
How does it improve your well-being?
I do use it a lot. I have been on since 1997 (remember AOL?). What I saw was this infinite library of information and knowledge, the ease of sending emails and documents, chatting with new people in "chat rooms" and making new friends. Suddenly I could reach out daily to people who spoke my language even if we came from different backgrounds and nationalities.
These days, I have two devices - a phone and a laptop. I check the news, fact-check anything, get more info or add content to certain websites. Get news of family and friends far away, Look at certain videos, particularly those commenting on politics, watch films and for entertainment... it's mostly sudokus (the hard ones). I have also quite a lot of conversations going on, not just on 7cups.
I like the way I can take pics or videos and send instant reports to what is going on. I enjoy having son no.2 do the same (he lives in NY) around his work and his home.
To the extent I can, I shop in the local stores, but... I do order online too. I wonder if I would be this happy living in the boondocks if it was not for the easy connection to everywhere else.
I remember when mobile phones used to be thought a luxury to the point that some people were scandalized because the refugees crossing Europe on foot had those with them.
@Fradiga
Your post brought back memories Fradiga. I remember the times when it was almost impossible and very expensive to reach someone abroad. Today, one just drops a message in their virtual post box, so easy. Times have changed, not all is good or better but some things like the internet make life better and easier provided we use it mindfully. It must be exciting to watch all the pictures sent by your son, knowing how things look like over there.
@amiablePeace77
In what ways are you using the internet?
To interact with people, to research on stuff, positive things like that
How does it improve your well-being?
The research especially got my wellbeing to a much better level since I always research on how to be better in every aspect and in every way, etc.
My wellbeing has been better bc of joining this specific site and interacting with people, meeting people and stuff. I’m very appreciative this site exists.
@amiablePeace77
In what ways are you using the Internet? I use the Internet to research information, shop, connect with my medical team, and keep up with out-of-state family. The Internet is pretty much my only social contact.
How does it improve your well-being? The internet gives me social contact with others, and it keeps me informed on a lot of things.
@amiablePeace77
Interesting!
