Building resilience as a student šŖ
Hey everyone! āØ
Being a student can be super tough - between assignments, exams, social life, mental health and everything else, itās easy to feel overwhelmed. š It's important that we don't let this overwhelm take over. Resilience is the key to bouncing back when things get hard and its something that can be built up over time! š§ š±
š” What is resilience, anyway?
Resilience is all about how we adapt to challenges, stress, and setbacks. š ļø Whether itās a failed test, a rough week or feeling lost, resilience helps us pick ourselves up and keep moving forward. Itās not about avoiding problems but learning how to handle them better. š
How can you build resilience?
Resilience is something that can be developed in different ways for differentĀ people; everyone's experiences, coping mechanisms and strengths are unique, so what works for one person may not for another and this is okay!
Below are some general ways to build resilience:Ā
š Reframe the challenge: Instead of seeing obstacles as roadblocks, think of them as opportunities to grow. š± What can you learn from this experience?
šÆ Set small goals:Ā Breaking things down can be kay! š Each small victory is a step closer to success, and celebrating them can help to boost your confidence and motivation!
š¤ Lean on your support system: Donāt do it alone! Whether it's friends, family or even our 7 Cups community, having people to talk to can make a huge difference. š¬š
š§ Prioritise self-care:Ā Resilience isnāt just mental, itās physical too. Get enough sleep š¤, eat nutritious food š, and donāt forget to exercise! šāāļø Self-care keeps you strong inside and out.
š Embrace the setbacks:Ā If you failed an exam or didnāt hit your goal - itās okay! Every setback is a learning experience. Think about what you can improve and apply it next time. šš
š¤ So.. letās discussĀ
What challenges have you faced as a student recently? š How did you overcome them? Or, is there something youāre currently struggling with that you need support on?šš¬
I'll start -Ā this week I was really stuck with my English coursework as I couldnāt find a topic that felt good enough. The pressure was building, which became stressful and felt like nothing was working. At first, I was scared to ask for help because I thought it's too late to not have a topic. But eventually, I talked to my teacher and he helped me see things from a different perspective. It reminded me that asking for help is a strength, not a weakness and a key part of resilience.
Remember....resilience doesnāt mean you're invincible - it means youāre capable of growing, learning, and coming back stronger every time. You've got this! š„š
@izzyy528Ā Hey Izzy, thank you for such a detailed and informative post about building resilience as a student. I especially like the part where you recognized that being a student can be pretty daunting and what may work for one person may not work for another. It's important to recognize this and I couldnāt agree with you more!
Iām glad that you were able to talk to your teacher and they were helpful to you despite having feelings of fear before. Iām also elated that he was able to give you a differing perspective to help you with your English coursework. Here's hoping you get an exceptional grade on that coursework!Ā šÆā
One challenge Iāve faced is the build-up of assignments, projects and exams along with other mundane responsibilities. Overall, there was a feeling of too many responsibilities piling up at the same time despite my best efforts to manage them efficiently. It had seemed quite overwhelming at first, until I setback and took some time to reframe what I needed to do. I took to priority setting, sorting out my main priorities and also creating a chart to allocate how much time I needed to do it. When I planned and organized these activities into a chart, it became a lot clearer. Eventually, I was able to resolve the build-up that was felt and even shared what worked for me with my classmates as they faced similar issues.
Again, I appreciate your time and patience in creating and sharing this post.Ā š
@GentleHealingInitiativeĀ
Thank you so much for your thoughtful response! š Iām really glad the post resonated with you andĀ I reallyĀ appreciate your kind words about my experience with my English coursework! Fingers crossed for that grade! š¤
Your story about dealing with that build-up isĀ soooĀ relatable and itās amazing that you were able to reframe the situation and organise your tasks in a manageable way. Prioritising and breaking things down into a chart sounds like a super practical way to ease that overwhelming feeling. Ā I love that you also shared what worked for you with classmates, thatās really the kind of support and resilience building that makes a real difference!
Thank you again for sharing your experience and for your kind words.Ā Take care! āØ
