"Stickies" for the forum?

curiosityofnature February 12th, 2017

One thing that I think this forum urgently needs: "sticky" posts for each subforum, to have the most important information always on top and easy to find. In cases where this would mean lots of posts, one could create an extra post with links to the other posts, and make that one sticky.

In this feedback subforum, for example, I remember seeing a thread (or several?) where someone regularly summarised what had been sent in through the suggestion box - if that were a sticky, I could just read up on whether my suggestion has already been discussed before bringing it up...

This is such a common feature in forums that I'm really wondering why we don't have it here. Any explanations/thoughts on this?

I love this idea! Thanks for sharing it with us. I think this would be really helpful especially for new listeners who are starting out as coming to 7 cups for the first time can be scary when you don't know a lot. Have you submitted your idea in the listener suggestion box? If not you can do that here.

I for one agree! Stickies are a great way to have an organized forum and can be very useful for someone who is not too equipped to the forums. Have you put your suggestion in the suggestion box? If not, you can do so here.

@BurningEmber

Yep, I put it in the suggestion box not too long after I posted this (didn't hear anything back).

@curiosityofnature - It went into the suggestion box report that I passed along to admins and ambassadors about a week ago - I haven't heard any feedback yet, but it sounds like a good idea and one that aligns with what we currently do in subcommunities at a higher level.

@Anomalia - I think we have the ability to make threads sticky or pinned, but just need to turn it on in the interface.

What about the ability to lock threads?

@BurningEmber - lock them like stop replies to them? is that in the suggestion box, @anomalia?

One thing to be aware of is that our forum software is homegrown, so we can't tinker with it quite so easily as when you're just plugging in someone else's forum package.
