I'm slightly concerned that 7 Cups is heading to the wrong direction

Hi there,

I'm an listener, and I take part in all the translation projects for my language. I'll admit that I do not keep tabs on what's happening with the site, but if the latest translation batches are any indication, it seems that paid therapy is a primary focus now.

I'm a little concerned about where this is going. I understand that this is probably a service requested by many members, and a handy one for people who don't have access to therapists in the traditional way. My question is, is this a way for 7 Cups to obtain some funding to keep going, or is it going commercial, for-profit?

I'd appreciate if anyone could enlighten me about the strategy.

@Totoro14

Hey there! 7cups has never been a nonprofit. smiley It's not going "for profit" as it has always been a for profit website. Therapy is just one way that the site makes the funds to keep the site going. Other ways are by backing up, people buying paths stuff, or even buying from the 7cups store.

I will tag some admins!

Hi there @Totoro14 ,

I'm the teen community manager and I focus on managing all things teen related on the site.

I really appreciate you reaching out to express how you feel and being open minded.

I do think therapy is now a very important part of 7 cups, we are building a support system for the internet! That support system needs professionals working along side volunteers. But that said, I want to mention that translation is done by pieces. This means you might have worked on translating the home page on the first translation event, then on the second event focus on translating the onboarding, then X page or Y side of the site. It might be that the curent part of the script that is being translated is the therapy onboaring and that might be why you feel therapy is being the primary focus of the translation.

That said, I'd be happy to talk more about what other things we can do to champion our members, listeners and more! Each and every group of users are necesary for 7 cups to work, we need our members, we need our listeners and we need our therapist. The goal is for 7 cups to maintain its free side (based on volunteers and collectively problem solving) and the therapy side.

In terms of revenue @GlenM usually posts updates every so often on where we are on those terms and what are the plans for 7 cups future. If you haven't, I totally encourage you to read these forum about "Next Generation Support" and "7 Cups is here to stay". But as @Burningember mentions at current we have various avenues for revenue such as therapy, verticals (support systems for schools and companies) and upgraded paths.

Hope this clears things out! If there is anything else I can help with don't hesitate to let me know.

Hey, I am a new listener here.

And I may give a suggestion.I like how 7cups is non-profit and it definitely should be as a lot of people need guidance these days.To stopntje community from fading, maybe the admins can patch up with other apps or online agencies or something to help listener earn something to keep them going.

Maybe, idk just a suggestion.Like some app related advantage or online gift cards if the app can affiliate with other online platforms.
