Forum Post Glitch
Hello everyone,
I'm sure you've all encountered these situations at sometime when making a forum post:
1). The size jump. Highlight some text to change the size- the normal font size is 15, but if I wanted it to be 18 or 24, it could jump to a whopping 72 size font. However, one line will get bigger while the other one shrinks. I did a size comparison on another word processor. It's ultimately funky. However, it only causes issues in a third of my posts. Not sure if it affects anyone else?
2). Did you know if you wanted single-spaced paragraph (because I'm pretty sure everything is double-spaced), you'd need to hold Shift + Enter simultaneously? Annoying, right? I'll include an image for this.
3). When posting a forum post you will see how things reformat to some other non-appealing look. Forum Supporters, Forum Mentors/Teen Stars, Forum Member Leaders are however lucky with this though. How? Users with those mentioned roles can edit their own posts and fix them. I suspect this to be a coding error, word processing error, or something along that line.
For example, I made a post. Nicely formatted. 7Cups changes it to (you will notice odd spacing):
The version that I typed out on a Google Doc (it goes to a new page [page end]):
Now, this is when I go back to look at it when editing:
It makes it look like I posted it that way, in which case, I did not. The forums add extra spacing after separating the lines. It's unpleasant.
Please know I make my forum posts formatted on Microsoft Word or Google Docs. I am only saying that if people tell me to format it beforehand.
I'm well aware 7Cups uses Summernote. I believe @RarelyCharlie mentioned that somewhere in a previous post somewhere. These forum edit errors are clearly bothersome to people, not only to me.
It would be pleasant if these issues would be resolved soon.
Tagging those who may have an interest: @7CupsCommunity @AffyAvo @RarelyCharlie @QuietMagic @Mel
@optimisticMagic0014 Oh thanks for tagging me!
It is annoying. I'm not a fan of the effort to format things when it's straightforward and simple, so the extra challenges mean I just leave things looking different from what I wanted.
I didn't rven know #2 there have been so many times I just left the extra space!
@AffyAvo
No problem, Affy. I noticed you like to post in this community a lot and you're great about feedback here. So I thought you'd be interested.
It's beyond annoying for a lot of people. It's annoying to format things, just so it messes up.
And for the second issue I put down, it's either too spacey or the person who writes a post presses ENTER a few too many times. That's what I observed over the past year. Maybe you'll notice if you do Shift + Enter simultaneously one time and a normal ENTER after, and a normal BACKSPACE you will notice it goes back up where it started had you not pressed ENTER twice. (I have no idea if that made sense.) It affects profile bio's and mentors bio's as well.

I agree with you that the current forum editor isn't ideal in how it handles certain kinds of formatting.
Personally, I've decided that it isn't worth the time/stress it would take me to put together a well-written feedback report, nudge for a response in a couple weeks, and reply to the response that I expect will say no action is being taken since it is time-consuming/difficult to fix.
If you feel motivated to push through on that effort, HERE is the community feedback form and HERE are my own issues I've seen when copying/pasting from Google Docs (i.e. removes bold/underline/italic formatting, removes numbering, inconsistent line spacing).
@QuietMagic
The old forum editor, I thought was sufficient, of course, lacked the enhanced editor, but @RarelyCharlie got that sorted out. The old editor didn't have as many issues at hand, maybe some errors, but it wasn't all that frequent. At least for Google Docs, you were able to transfer the font style over, which was neat.
About Google Docs, I sure do get frustrated with how 7Cups' forums remove it- formatting-wise. I guess we are all stuck with such bland posts. Thank you for those forms. As with me, I'd rather not waste my time explaining something for it to be ignored. Thank you, again.
@optimisticMagic0014 I have encountered #1 too.
Does anyone know how to work on #2 on phone? 😮
@theriverissinging
For the first issue I mentioned, I gave up on trying to make it bigger. I did try "Control + Shift + ," and "Control + Shift ." Those do not work on the 7Cups forum editor. However, the work on Google Docs. I just bold, italicize, and underline. I do this to help it stand out. You could add color as well. Up to you, but I noticed it helped when reading.
As for the second issue I mentioned, I would suggest using Google Docs. Write out everything exactly how you want it to be and copy/paste it over. As for the app, my posts looked like absolute BS. They look jammed when it was processed. I would not count for good-looking posts via the app. I'd probably edit my own posts after the app processed them. I'd do it via the site on mobile.
Hoped this helps.
Magic-
@optimisticMagic0014 thank you!
@optimisticMagic0014 Yes, it's annoying.
1) I've never experienced the size jump and I don't know what could cause it.
2) It's normal that Shift+Enter inserts a line break, and plain Enter starts a new paragraph. Word processors work that way, too, but if you don't know the trick I don't know how you would find out.
3) When you type a post directly there are three components affecting how it will eventually look. Yes, the editor is Summernote, and that has certain settings of its own.
Then there's a filter to protect the forum from anything that could interfere with other people's posts. Unfortunately at 7 Cups the filter is too aggressive, and it changes things that don't need to be changed.
Finally there's a stylesheet that formats posts for display. At 7 Cups the stylesheet is based on Bootstrap, but it has some issues. It's the stylesheet that makes paragraphs look double-spaced.
When you copy and paste from somewhere else, there's another filter affecting what gets copied. Copying the same layout from different places might turn out differently.
In the app everything is different again, and generally worse, as far as I can tell.
