Feeling super old !
Ive only been on here for a short time kinda reading through some threads and alot are teens im 31 and have been cutting since i was 11 now im wondering Like damn should i have grown out of this by now or what?! 🤦🤦 if it were only so simple as it being "just a phase" *sigh*

I understand your feelings and this sense of "I should have grown out of this by now". I wonder if you can attune to self-compassion and curiosity... If you haven't grown out of it, it is probably because SH has indeed helped you to deal with overwhelming emotions. What do you think? What is your insight? The work that we need to do is to develop our awareness and find healthier coping mechanisms that can replace SH. Your age is totally perfect for all this <3

@admaiorasemper yes I definitely believe that! it has gotten me through everything really it's a very weird relationship I have with SH it is only thing that was there for me and it is comforting and it understands me it's hard to think about what my life would be without having that to fall back on and I don't even know what a future like that would be like thank you for posting I feel some relief knowing that I'm not like the only one my age is dealing with this still when browsing through listeners I find that most of them say listen to teams as well very few say teens and adults so the Forum will probably be my home LOL

I really get how SH may feel comforting, however it remains an unhealthy and potentially very dangerous coping mechanism. It also doesn't solve the iusses that trigger our urges... You can find alternatives that, with time, will offer you the same sense of comfort and understanding. And we are all here to support you along this journey <3
