Telling people

VangMason September 17th, 2021

So this has been on my mind a lot recently.

I have a person that confided some stuff to me. She knows I have some type of issues but doesn't know anything about them but wants me to talk to her about them. I would like to say that I am recovering from SH and part of that process, I think, should be being able to talk about it with other people.

So, I was really thinking and considering telling her about my SH and about my past and about some of my mental struggles. The problem is, I'm borderline anxiety attack just typing all this here.

Any advice for telling someone? Good idea or bad idea?

Hello there. Thank you for coming here and asking for advice. I am glad to hear that you have someone in your life that you are considering letting in about your self harm! It can always be a great idea to have someone in your life that you can talk about these sorts of things. I can understand how you must feel anxious with telling her and wondering how to go about it. If you decide to tell her (which I hope you do), you don't have to go into detail. You can just say "I have been recovering from self harm. I am x months clean. It can be hard sometimes" and anything else you want her to know. If you are comfortable, you can offer to answer any questions she may have.

You can check out this guide on telling someone about your self harming. HERE
