I miss the days when I was a confident dude and was happy with my life.

I remember a couple of years ago I was a happy confident guy in my life and I looked forward to every new day. I never really cared about anything and tried to be a very stress free person. I always tried to make time for my family and tried to always meet new people. In 2016 I attended to university and I thought that I had a new start, I felt confident and happy and then I realized that everyone there was so much further ahead of me, they've had more experiences than I have ever had. I ended up graduating with my bachelors and then got my masters but in terms of my social life, I was very far behind compared to my peers and I felt like that I didn't care because I didn't see in it me but I was happy.

However in the past year or so I have lost a lot of my confident because I had gotten rejected by this girl that I liked alot. I had tried to dating again which lead to people criticizing me in horrible ways and tried to step outside my comfort zone and it ruined my confidence and self esteem. When I was a confident person I never really cared about dating or relationship but I started caring since I am now getting older (for reference I'm 27M).

I've been trying to rebuild that confidence again through therapy and reading books about building confidence and learning to love myself. However I miss those days alot and it wasn't too long ago. I feel nostalgic thinking about how much and confident and happy I was.

Confidence often dissipates when we start to compare ourselves to others.   In reality as in most people comparing to others is IMO comparing  a ball and a box and expecting  similarities.

You have done well in school .... and worried about how many travel/ social  experiences you have.... the reality is experiences are not comparable .... and others often embellish these experiences as well.

You lost confidence when you internalize other people's  unhelpful criticism.

Being confident allows us to step out of our comfort zone... if you feel things fell apart when you stepped out of your zone perhaps you had limited confidence in yourself.   In dating and such be yourself not who you think you should be ... look for genuine partners not those who are the type to say horrible things when things go badly that sounds very immature.   being confident does not mean all others will like you and in fact may intimidate some whom are unsure of themselves and need to knock you to feel better about themselves.
