Spam?
It's been long since I log in to 7cups and stroll in the forum. But recently I see that there are post that are weird as the context isn't really about ideas on 7cups, or about member or about listener or anything about 7cups. Is it normal? or is it actually a spam? Or you know now it's okay to actually promote your stuffs here on 7cups?
Yes it's normal (it happens every night), no it's not okay (just keep flagging them so they can get deleted), and I mean yeah I wish they'd come up with a more permanent solution to this. Maybe tracking down whoever is putting these out and getting them taken down (as they might be scamming and I'm pretty sure that's illegal?) Or maybe preventing new members from posting links (since these are all posted by brand new accounts and then abandoned), or maybe having a captcha or something. Or maybe having forum posts by day old accounts be reviews by a mod before being posted. That might deter them, or not, idk. I'm not sure if they're bots or if they're humans who took a stooped this low to take such a job.
Anyway, just keep flagging them and hope that the admin come up with a better solution someday. I literally check every night just so I can flag.
@Phthalo
Those are some good ideas. I sent the idea of a captcha a while ago but preventing posting in the forums for very new accounts could be something, but we don't want to hold back those who need support. Maybe you could make a post in the suggestion area of the forum with these ideas? :)

I've been on many message boards and forums and the spam you see is common everywhere. There was only one online community where I didn't see that sort of thing and it was because all new members had a waiting period before they could post. I don't know if the admins or mods checked each new sign-up or if the spambots just didn't make it through the waiting period.
That may not be feasible or desirable for this community.
@Mirea I also don't see it on sites where you can't access the forums without logging in or sites where it's just a super lengthy process to sign up.

In the last few months, spam has become a huge problem that we're all aware of and are hoping to prevent in future. I've recommended some ideas in the hopes of preventing it so we hope something will be done soon. In the mean time, please ignore/flag them. They usually get removed quite quickly. It's a shame that people go out of their way to make accounts just to spam a nice place like this.
I moved your thread to the "Have A Question You Need Answered?" part of the forums.
