February 2022 Events: Safer Internet Day!
hello, everyone ! i hope you're all doing well 😊 today is safer internet day !
from cyberbullying to social networking to digital identity, each year, safer internet day aims to raise awareness of emerging online issues and current concerns ! ❤️
so, how exactly do you stay safe on the internet ? though the internet is a place where we can easily express ourselves in whatever ways we'd like, people also tend to use this in a harmful way towards others. that's why it's extremely important to take safety precautions while on the internet-- and that includes here on 7 cups as well !
some general tips for safety on 7 cups :
- keep personal information limited ! do not share your social media handles, phone number, email address, etc. with other users on the site <3
- block and report users that try to engage in conflict with you, ask for personal information, attempt to initiate inappropriate chats, etc. the truth is that we never really know the person on the other side of the screen <3
- contact community@7cups in situations when you feel it is very necessary !

I appreciate you making this posts, especially on this website. It can get particularly risky for any volunteers like myself, if we were to reveal personal info. There have been some instances where members have tried to ask me personal questions, while I was trying to help them in the issue they were dealing with. Of course, I'd politely refrain from responding to them. You never know who's behind the computer screen and what their intentions might be!
Another way I try to remain safe is not adding my own picture as a Listener Profile Photo! For any personal social media, I keep some of them on private mode OR keep my actual location hidden.

i completely understand where you are coming from ! <3 safety is not only very important for members on the site, but for listeners as well haha i do know what you mean by that. in some cases, we can definitely be asked things that are a bit too personal, and i'm very happy you refrain from sharing that in order to protect yourself !
not adding your own picture to your listener profile is a great idea ! and keeping account private is also a great way to stay safe <3 public accounts are definitely at higher risk of danger on the internet, unfortunately :( i also like to keep my accounts private on social media <3

What is one rule you abide by in order to stay safe on the internet?
I don't click on unidentified or unsafe links. Moreover, I don't share personal information that might allow someone to track me.

being weary of links is a great way to stay safe online <3 you never know if those links could be harmful-- especially the ones that cannot be identified ! and refraining from sharing personal information which could be tracked is another great safety method. some people do have bad intentions on the internet !

Never give out your name publicly, and avoid uploading a photo of you wherever you can. It is not hard to stalk someone, and if any account of yours ever gets hacked you could get intro real trouble real quickly - especially if your ip address or phone number is present on the account anywhere.

definitely <3 it can be very easy for people to stalk another person on the internet-- especially if they have access to those things through what you share on your account :o getting hacked is extremely dangerous, so it is surely important that we try to prevent this from happening ! <3

what is one rule you abide by in order to stay safe on the internet ? One rule I abide by is the rule of posting with consideration; the consideration of how my online presence can be taken and how to rightly use the internet as a tool for community and good, so always interact with good intentions and explore with openess :)

that is a great method <3 it is important to try to only share with good intentions online and to be careful about what you post ! you never know who you may upset :o
