February 2022 Events: Safer Internet Day!
hello, everyone ! i hope you're all doing well 😊 today is safer internet day !
from cyberbullying to social networking to digital identity, each year, safer internet day aims to raise awareness of emerging online issues and current concerns ! ❤️
so, how exactly do you stay safe on the internet ? though the internet is a place where we can easily express ourselves in whatever ways we'd like, people also tend to use this in a harmful way towards others. that's why it's extremely important to take safety precautions while on the internet-- and that includes here on 7 cups as well !
some general tips for safety on 7 cups :
- keep personal information limited ! do not share your social media handles, phone number, email address, etc. with other users on the site <3
- block and report users that try to engage in conflict with you, ask for personal information, attempt to initiate inappropriate chats, etc. the truth is that we never really know the person on the other side of the screen <3
- contact community@7cups in situations when you feel it is very necessary !
an icebreaker question for you ! : what is one rule you abide by in order to stay safe on the internet ? <3 whether that is something that was mentioned in this post, or something that was not ! i'd love to hear from you !

One thing is- I don't share any type of personal information that can be easily traced. I never click on unknown links.
This way I can protect my safety!

not sharing too personal information is always a great method ! we need to always remember to be careful when on the internet, even when we think that we can trust some people more than others :) we never know who they could actually be and what their true intentions are !
not clicking on unknown links is also a really great rule ! unknown links could lead to terrible consequences :( we need to stay safe !!

Hey Suko! Thank you so much for the *amazing* post! I absolutely love all of the ideas that you mentioned about how to stay safe on 7 Cups, and even the internet in general!
There are two additional ideas that I utilize consistently:
(1) I try to clear my cookies and passwords from my browser to prevent my personal information from beings stolen.
(2) When I am looking through extra-sensitive documents, I try to use a private/incognito window so that I don't have to worry about my browsing history, passwords, and cookies being saved to my device. <- One note about this is that you should still remain cautious, since these kinds of windows may not guarantee 100% protection.

clearing cookies and passwords are a great way to stay safe on the internet ! it can be extremely risky to save passwords and other information online-- i understand that <3
using private/incognito windows are a great way to protect yourself online as well ! and absolutely- -it is still very important to remember that they certainly do not guarantee 100% protection, and i'm glad you know this as well ! props to you ! <3

Lovely post. I find this highly relevant especially in this day and age. It's important to safeguard our privacy especially when most of our personal details are digitally stored for easier accessibility, and when social media contains dangerous parties lurking in there.
As for that question, I try to not reveal any type of private details when anyone asks of me from the internet.

that is a great method ! keeping information private is extremely important when it comes to online safety. it’s one of the best ways to stay safe on the internet ! even if we think that we can trust somebody enough to tell them certain things, it’s never a good idea
I am very careful about not giving out my real name to stay safe on the internet. Having a unique name can be tough (unless you're making usernames or email ids then it's a blast)

being careful with not giving our your real name on the internet is extremely important ! it's definitely a great method to stay safe online and it's true that giving out your real name online can lead to danger at times ! <3 i am so happy you are trying to protect yourself from this danger-- it's the smart thing to do :)
and making usernames and emails for a unique name is definitely fun haha. i've had some of my friends make crazy emails for their names ! <3 thank you so much for sharing your method !

staying kind on the internet is very important !! not only is it just respectful and basic "netiquette", but it can also prevent other people from trying to do harm towards you as well <3 people can become very enraged online when they see something they don't like and usually, the results of that aren't too great :') it can definitely be dangerous at times. i am so happy to know you are aware of this !

dating websites definitely have dangers ! they are never completely safe, and there have been so many incidents where people have been put in danger due to dating websites :( it's great that you recognize this and put this into consideration ! that'll definitely prevent some risks for you !

staying anonymous online is definitely one of the best ways to stay safe on the internet ! it is true that mentioning things that could allow others to identify you more easily can put you in danger sometimes and it really is risky ! clicking suspicious links is as well, and i am glad you stay away from them !

It is important to know this day exists. There are too many scammers and hackers out there. Whem on social media I always ask if I personally know someone not just because we have mutial friends. I an so gad 7 cups is doing their part to make everyone here safe.
