What does Sunday Mean to You (or Your Holy Day) ?

soulsings November 10th
It used to be we would have a nice Sunday dinner with my family. It still is a quiet day for me but the meanings of Sunday have changed over the years.

  • Whether Sunday is a holy day to you or not, what does it mean to you now and did it mean in the past?
  • If  your holy day is some other day, what does that day mean to you?

Sunday used to mean a day of rest. A day where I could catch up on work and I got to see my community in the morning and in the afternoon. A day where I could go to service and just breathe.

Now it’s different. First change is that my mom has us at a different church and the times where I got to sing in the kids ministry have been eliminated. Second change is that I change households on Sundays. I go from my mom’s to my dad’s. It’s been weird as one could expect but has gotten just a little better recently.

Now I do my best to get the little bits of time where I can rest but my family seems to be working against me on that front.

For the rest of week, I do try to keep somewhat the same mindset but usually I get knocked down at least a couple times a week.

When I grew up Sunday was a day on which everyone rested, no work, (except for certain people like in hospitals etc.). Still today I see Sunday as a rest day but also as a day to take time for myself to turn inwards.

@soulsings Sunday is nothing special for me. Everyday is holy day, I talk to and thank God everyday ❤ although on a Sunday at the carehome we always have a roast dinner. It seems to be a tradition for the elder folks here.

I really wish you could have a dinner with your kids and grandkids, do you have any family around for thanksgiving?

@Tinywhisper11 great attitude, every day is holy.

I will be here on 7 Cups in the afternoon EST time. That is family enough for me.

@Tinywhisper11 having a family as big as 7 Cups is a real good thing

Sunday was a day of being safe as a child as i went to church my family did not. so the people who took me to church were kind and loving. unlike my family so sunday and belief faith in Jesus Christ gave me hope as a child.

now still go church and mean worship with other and seeing others having fellowship with others. learning God word in church. it still give me hope and make my life better we feel.

On Sunday me commemorate and celebrate that Jesus, the Christ, the Son of God, God incarnate, pre-announced by Jewish prophets for millennia, on the third day after dying by crucifixion, rose from the dead in a body that was fully functional and healthy, thus providing living proof of the possibility of such event, and promising the same for those who believe in Him and do as He taught. We celebrate this hope.

As part of celebrating this hope and as part of honoring God's work and love by freeing us from the slavery of sin, we keep Sunday as a day of rest, worship and good works. This is a reflection on God's Command of keeping the day of repose holy. The day of repose for the Jews is Saturday, in memory of being freed from slavery in Egypt and in memory of God's rest from creation starting on the seventh day; for Christians, it is Sunday, in memory of being freed from death as a permanent consequence of sin and in memory of the inauguration of a new creation by God by opening resurrection as a permanent status of life.

It is also a sign of our belonging to God.
