3 Easy Scripts for Setting Up Boundaries ๐ด The Self-Care Lounge

Boundaries and Expectations.
Setting boundaries and expectations is a form of self-care for a healthy self-esteem where we define it based on what we value. And setting expectations is about communicating what others can expect of us and what they can not.
We can say it straight to the point, specially when it is clearly offensive or your safety is at risk. You may use phrases such as:
โ Sorry, but I'm not comfortable with that.
โ I found your joke offensive and I can't accept it.
โ No, I'm not interested.
But not everyone and not in every situation we can be short and clear. Oftentimes, it is the hardest part in setting boundary.
In this post we're going to exercise scripts to communicate our boundaries and expectations that are still empathetic.
Activity:
1. We will give example situations in a personal relationship and alternative formulas to communicate boundaries and expectations. You will try to create the script to set boundaries.
Here we go!
Situation 1: A close friend keeps telling you what you should and should not do in a particular situation up to the point he/she is making you feel uncomfortable or offended.
Formula (pick one):
โ Gratitude + boundary + schedule
โ Your emotions + boundary + exit
Situation 2: Your partner is upset thinking you're not caring for them enough to the point he/ she is saying things that made you feel degraded, when you're facing your own personal challenges at that time.
Formula (pick one):
โ Validation + boundary + schedule
โ Restatement + boundary + alternate solution
2. Create 1 sample situation based on your experience, create a formula and create the script.

I am really grateful to have a caring and supportive friend like you however I believe I'd have to take some decisions of my life on my own , and while I admire your advises I'd really appreciate if you could support my desicions instead of telling me what to do.

I've been juggling with some personal things that are really taking alot of my time and emotions , I apologise for not being around as much as I'd want to and I do understand why youd feel I am not caring enough , but I do not think what you said is right and it did hurt my feelings , I hope we we can work on something together from here on , as hurting each other while we are both struggling personally isn't the right way to go about, and I do value your well being also , so what say ? ๐

I am really sorry that you feel that way but p[lease know I am going through some personal things at the moment and need my time to sort out what is happening with me, I am always here for you and will be supportive of you, but right now I have some things to work out myself.
