Pmdd, anxiety, depression trying to cope with anxiety, depression, adhd, dyspraxia husband

MysticN May 28th, 2018

I've been on the lookout for years for someone who can help me with relationship issues with my husband. He has dyspraxia which causes a whole host of problems and basically I handle all practical issues in our life which is stressful, exhausting, burdensome... I don't fully understand where to draw the line of what i can and cannot expect from him and how to cope with what I cannot expect from him. Often have to defend him to a degree from my family as not simply being lazy, immature, selfish or disrespectful. But also very often feel that he uses his struggles as an excuse to just not help with so many of the things I end up having no choice but to handle.

Can anybody point me in the right direction? These message boards are very overwhelming.

Living with someone with a disability can be overwhelming, exhausting and down right impossible at times. Congratulations on lasting 20 years with your husband!

Knowing when a relationship has run its course can be hard and when you are in a relationship where you don't really know what to think of your partner's behaviour.

I hope you find the support you need in the forum.

@ShareenBirgesBASSCounGDYMH I've been refreshing my understanding by looking at lists of symptoms. So many of the things on the list are things I know are frustration triggers for me. It is hard that it has such a wide impact. I must assume it is hard for him too and that me being frustrated about it probably doesn't help. If I can keep it in my mind what symptoms are from the disability, I could remind myself that's just the way things are. But even that is tough. Dyspraxia is weird because even though it affects pretty much every aspect of his life and functioning, it is easy to overlook.

It certainly sounds tough. It shows great insight and recognising your triggers is half the battle so great job!

Have you looked at support groups ... they can be really helpful in managing frustration etc.
