Don't give your all to someone unless they're willing to take it

BeginAgain21 December 31st, 2023

Willingly or not, being in the same house with a mentally ill family member, you can either save them or eventually drown along with them. I've tried to do the first one so bad until it broke me that it's not working, and I ended up falling into the latter. This thread isn't supposed to put you down, it's just a reminder to not make my mistake and it's time you realize that you cannot save someone who doesn't want to be saved no matter how hard you try, you'll always end up in the same pit.

Thank you for sharing this with us. This needs to be addressed strictly that you cannot save someone who's not willing to be saved. Of course if someone's feeling hopeless and had gave up on life, we can't be like "I can't save this guy" and move on. We can show our effort to build up hope in them but again maintaining healthy boundary there is crucial.  We need to acknowledge when these supporting thing start to affect our own mental health. It's better to check out the symptoms (if) of burnout and eventually make our decisions. We need to make sure that whatever we do to support the other party shouldn't haunt us. If nothing helps (as in they're not ready to take it), it's better to move on because your mental health equally matters.

I hear you, and I can sense the pain in your words.  Its incredibly challenging to be in a situation where you're trying to help someone you care about, especially when it takes a toll on your own well being. It's important to acknowledge your efforts and the love you've shown. Remember, you can't control someone's choices and it's not your responsibility to save them. Taking care of yourself is equally important and know that you deserve support too.
