Do you think most relationships have an "expiration date?"

GoingInCircles365 March 12th

I've heard this idea before, and maybe there's some truth to it. Do relationships have an expiration date? Most relationships eventually fizzle out. Are we really supposed to make lifelong commitments to a partner, or does this just bring unrealistic expectations?

Just curious what other people think about this. Thanks!

@GoingInCircles365,

no, but you have keep on working on them. Love is a verb.

If both don't put work in it then the same happens as happens to milk, the relationship goes sour.

I completely agree with you. BOTH partners have to put in a lot of work, throughout the duration of the relationship. And if one person feels like their working their *** off while the other doesn't have much to give in terms of love, support, etc., it's pretty unbalanced. I guess that's not so much an "expiration date" as a lack of compatibility.

Relationships are work and instead of getting easier it can get harder... as time passes.

People are growing or changing all the time and in a relationship if one grows and the other does not see or acknowledge it there becomes a rift.

The biggest thing is to grow together the best you can...and never take a person for granted or think you know all about them because as they change with life you only know who they used to be.

Agreed. And I really like the point you make of trying not to take a partner for granted. It really does take a non-stop effort. Sometimes it's easy. Sometimes it's hard. But if there's mutual interest and compatibility, I think it's absolutely worth the effort.
