How did you meet your best friend?

tinyraindrop July 28th, 2015

Hey everyone!

Happy Friendship Week!! I really love that 7 Cups is doing this and I encourage you all to give gifts here :)

I started this thread because I thought it would be fun to share how you met your best friend!

I met mine after a mutual friend at introduced us at a house show and we've been "bffs" for 7 years now. Although we don't live near each other anymore, I know she is always there for me and vice versa. People can come into your life at any time and change everything; I am so glad to have met someone who I can call my best friend.

How did you meet your best friend?

**Also, for people who may just not have met their best friend yet, (there's 7 billion people on Earth so sometimes it takes a whilewink) check out this article for tips on how to make new friends! heart

We were assigned as physical science partners in 6th grade! Now both of us are going to be seniors and we are still besties. And neither of us are pursuing physical science. ;)

i met my best friend through a mutual friend's boyfriend when all 4 of us went for a walk in 1998. he stood out because he was a big goofball and for some reason was picking and stuffing flowers into my friend's mouth and making everyone laugh.

we reconnected later online in 1999 or so, napster group chat days, and i added him to icq, 2000 and onwards we started playing pool regularly.

he's moved away, but we still chat online a few times a week and when we see each other in person, it's like we've never been apart!

It was her first day and she felt very shy. Lots of people wanted to meet her, but she was overwhelmed by all that attention. She saw me standing alone beside window. She got closer and asked me what I'm doing. I told her that I have this amazing idea, but I need someone to help. She offered her assistance, so we went outside to the playground ^^

19 years of strong friendship so far and we still support each other. She's amazing and I'm glad I got her in my life heart

I met my best friend in nursery school when we were both about 3 years old! 19 years later, we are still best friends :-)

Love this question. My current best friend and I never talked until college. In fact, I was intimidated by her in high school, as she appeared to be in the untouchable, "popular" group. But one day in college I was walking back to my dorm and she just drove up in her car and yelled my name and said "Oh my god, hi! We should hang out sometime." I had never imagined she was so down to earth and amazing. We started to hang out a lot and found out how much we have in common. From then on we were best friends.

This is a perfect example of how in high school, the opinions we have of people are often so skewed by everybody's messed-up perceptions of each other that we really have no idea who people are on the inside until you get to know them. If you are intimidated of somebody or you have a bad impression of them due to rumors you've heard or whatever, it's likely you just haven't taken the time to get to know them well enough. Everybody learns this lesson some time in life. So get out and start meeting people - it could be the start of a beautiful friendship you never thought you'd have! :)

He's one of my editors and my publisher. I wrote for him for a few years before we met in person. I wouldn't have written half of my fiction if they weren't commissioned by him. My best ever story, was my inspired by him and my Christmas gift to him. He gave me the courage and license to take risks with my writing, develop my voice, and publish my memoirs.

We make each other laugh, and he is truly the jolliest person I know. We've explored caves together, served together as delegates at our local Democratic convention, been on writing retreats, and--good lord--even dared to try haggis out of a can. It's rare that your friend can be your chief muse, your patron, and your confidant. He is both an important part of the world I live in as well as the worlds I imagine, and I cannot imagine either one with out him in it.

I met my best friend in high school, we actually didn't get along very well at first, however as we've gotten older and left school, we're pretty much inseperable and I couldn't imagine my life without her!

Me and my best friend have been friends since 2005 and we've been friends ever since. We are always honest with each other, I couldn't ask for a better friend

My best friend and I were in the same class when we were nine but we didn't talk to each other. It was because I just transferred into the school and I was, in her own words, 'smart but quiet type' and she was, also in her own words, 'dumb and quiet type.'

We didn't talk to each other until we were eleven, by then we weren't in the same class and we had left quite and impression on each other. We know that we won't ever be friends. However her father says that he wanted her to befriend me, as he believes that surrounding yourself with smart people makes you smart but she was afraid. It turns out she saw me hanging out with my friends and she said I looked intimidating. It was the first time I heard someone telling me that, because I was your resident geek/nerd always having myself buried in books and always talk about the things I learn in class and she saw me as a thug. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard in my life. To others, she was someone you probably don't even remember being in the same class with, but to me, she was an out-going person who doesn't seem to be bounded by the pressure of getting good grades or anything really. I always see her running around, playing soccer, laughing and enjoying herself with her friends. She was totally taken aback by that, because she was failing her classes and she was really sad about it.

We found out that we have many things in common. And we even discovered many passions together and of course friends. We enjoy being in each others company, and even now, when we are in different schools after graduating we still see and talk to each other. Every time we are together, we feel that time and our responsibilities aren't chaining us down.

Every time I am with my best friend, especially if I with my big circle of friends including my best friend, I feel free.
