Always in My Head

warmheartedHuman2014 March 1st, 2017

My ex and I were friends for about a year before we became romantically involved. He was such a gentleman and full of adoration for me. Making plans for the future and introducing me to all the important people in his life. I had to leave for work for 8 weeks and returned to find a job at home. Something happened to him while I was gone and he broke up with me over email. I don't think he started see someone else, but who knows.

Anyways, I'm normally able to forget about people I've dated or loved much longer. But, every morning, as soon as consciousness hits, he's in my mind. Every moment before I drift off to sleep, hep pops up. Everything I do during the day reminds me of him and I wish he was there to share it with me.

Why cant I get him out of my head for a majority of the day at least? Was on a date last night thinking of him...

Hey, warmhearted! It sounds like you feel a lack of closure by the suddenness of the breakup. You said that you aren't sure what happened and it can most certainly be difficult to find peace afterwards. I've been in a similar situation before so I know how confusing it is. Have you tried talking to your ex to discuss what happened? Maybe getting an answer will help you to move forward. If that is not possible, how do you think you can find that closure? What advice would you give a friend that was going through something similar?

Going through this process is completely normal and usually it just takes a bit for everything to truly sink in. Once you've gone through this state of confusion, you may find yourself thinking less and less about him.

Take care and good luck! heart

@TrueArrow Thank you. I tried talking to him when I got back, but he got really upset. That was about three months ago. A few weeks ago, I tried to reach out to him adn see if we could even go back to being friends, but he was unresponsive. I actually ran into him in a cafe a couple of weeks ago. He kind of just stared and then walked out the door before i had a chance to even smile. I just went on a forum for a group we both like and he was the last one who posted...i'm reminded of him daily because he was the one who suggested my new career and my job is 10-15 min from his house....I don't know how I can stop thinking about him. I try but we had so many things in common that the things I enjoy doing seem to be tarnished with a longing for him to be there even just as a friend...I don't know what i'd tell a friend because I don't have many friends and the ones I do have are mostly single or in long-term relationships with no big problems :(
