BOOK CHOSEN

The Firm

by John Grisham

Would anyone be interested in picking a book, movie, or show to read or watch and then discussing themes, plot elements, characters, etc., here? I don't have a lot of free time but when I do, and to keep my brain distracted, I read and watch psychological thrillers and/or dramas. It'd be great to have discussion with people who are interested 💚

@Help127

@xXReddMystic15Xx recommended this movie to me "Look away". It was really good, it's a thriller/horror movie to anyone interested in that kind of thing :)

@TeaCup8809 that sounds like a good one! I'll have to look it up. I'm already thinking of ideas for what we can view and read after the first book. Thank you!

hello I will try to participate too, has anyone found a free pdf link of the book?

@butterlycow I have not checked. That's a great question, though. It makes me wonder if perhaps a local library might have it available online to borrow? I don't know if they do that, but it's a possibility. I hope you are able to find it.

@Help127 That’s a good idea. The library may even have the book version, I got mine there 😊.

@adventurousBranch3786 I used to check books out by the armfuls when I was a kid 🙂Now I have to buy them because I'm way too scattered to borrow and return on time, and if a book is really good I have to keep it anyway! I had never even thought about e-book loaning, however. I might have to look into it.

@butterlycow you're welcome. I hope you will be able to read it and discuss with us. We will be watching the movie after, and then I have another book in mind for everyone that might be easily available at the library. I keep meaning to research online borrowing and if/how it works. I know of one website where public domain books and stories are kept but that is mostly, I think, for classics that have no current copyright or licensing restrictions.

Hi everyone! I hope you are enjoying the reading. I'm up to Chapter 26. I hope I'm not too far along. I'm open to start discussing the book a bit more if you like, or we can wait until more people get further into it. I don't want to spoil any of the plotline, but we can keep it to simple observations and what we think of characters for now, or similar. I look forward to discussing it further!

Hi! I finished reading chapter 13 today. The book is enthralling! I too am curious to see what will happen next, especially now that Mitch wants to understand.

@SolitaryBird I am so glad you are enjoying it! "Enthralling" is the perfect descriptive word for it. The book is definitely a page turner🙂

@selfconfidentDime2788 I'm glad you will be joining us! It's okay if you don't read the whole book or even watch the whole movie. (We plan to watch the movie next.) You are welcome to read/watch as much as you want and discuss whatever you like, too!

Wishing everyone a peaceful weekend and happy reading!

ReadBooks7 OP March 20th, 2023

I hope everyone had a peaceful and restorative and/or productive weekend.

Just checking in to see how everyone is enjoying the book. I think that several of us are around the middle of the book or a little farther, and others have recently joined in to start reading.

I wonder if it might now be helpful to choose a date to start discussing the plot and themes, or perhaps wait a bit longer, say til the end of this week, and then decide on a date. Please let me know what you think. I want to make sure everyone has plenty of time to read and participate as they like. There is no rush.

Thank you!🙂

@Help127. Hi I’m half way through the book but I can wait until the end of the week for a discussion date. It’s fine with me to go slowly to let others catch up.

@adventurousBranch3786 that sounds like a great plan. I am a little more than halfway through. I think I will check back on Friday or Saturday to see where everyone is, and then we can go from there. If you think of any discussion questions, I will ask anyone who has them to post them once everyone or at least most everyone has completed the book. Thank you!😊

I am sooo in! Love psychological thrillers, also family dramas that explore darker psychological themes, sometimes a good crime thriller/mystery…

@calmSky3414 I love those books as well. We are reading The Firm by John Grisham if you'd like to join. A few people are about halfway through but others are just starting or not as far along so there's still plenty of time if you like. We'll be watching the movie after, and then I have a couple of other books in mind for next, too.
