Wildlife Conservation Day ~ ONE THING. π π
Everyday, we see peepsicles stigmatising conservation efforts. It's a "treehugger" thingumajig. There are so many times in the world where someone unintentionally hurts an animal; accidentally renders one extinct. And I know I have so many things that I want NEED the world to hear #IsATreeHugger :P But I am a meanie, so I'm limiting you to one.
If you could tell the world ONE thing about wildlife or their conservation, and make them truly hear it, what would you say?
It's easy to think that the effect of human activities on our animal friends do not have reciprocal effects on ourselves but that could not be farther from the case. As I said in another thread, at least a 1/3rd of the world's food production comes from bees and I think much of the rest relies on birds to achieve this. Without habitat, that's one significant obstacle that I don't think us, as humans, can overcome.
So what can we do? I think people underestimate the power of one. They see countries like China and India with massive populations and compare them to their own. For example, people in my country of 4.5 million ignore their own effects on the environment and wildlife conservation efforts because "we're only small in comparison to the likes of China and India".
The truth of the matter is that this couldn't be farther from the case. We are 4.5 million individuals with the power to make our own decisions and create our own path. And as such, we can be leaders in our own communities and make our difference as one. And those ones certainly do add up.
Just because you're in a small community, doesn't mean that you're absolved from the responsibility of one in a large community. We can all play our part and understand that the effects of each of us ultimately affect both the wildlife of this world and environment. And those effects come back to bite us in spades. It's time to make the change.
That us future vets and treehuggers are probably the only people who fully and thoroughly understand that conserving animals isn't about being a hippy ecologist freak. It's about saving the world and NOT destroying species that are (a) flippin adorable and (b) useful to scienctific research and for biodiversity purposes.
Guys, we haven't even discovered some of the species that go extinct under our noses. This is important. So, what do I have to say abot wildlife conservation?
Well, all I have to say is I'm ready to be called a freakshow about wildlife conservation. #ProudlyTreeHugging β€
