I have cats and if I have a rough day, you can say whatever you want to them and they look at you as if they're listening and understand. They don't of course but it oddly helps.

And for me, managing mental health isn't about fighting the fire once things get past the tipping point but taking little steps to deal with the problems that you strike ech day that matters.

Taking a dog for walk (exercise), stroking the cats in the evening after I get home, watching the bees pollinate the plants in the garden, feeding the ducks, they all help.

I can say that animals can be a great help for depression.

When I bought my dog I was really depressed, and I can say that when I look at now and then I see some positive changes. My day became incomplete with my dog and it helps me a lot to occupy my mind with something else, because people tend a lot to think about their mental state when they're depressed.

Also, it keeps the anxiety away when I'm taking my dog out. It's, like I said, a great distraction.

So if anyone wants to improve their mental health, I can definitely recommend them buying a pet yes

I want to become a vet, but it wasn't always that way.

I remember having no confidence around animals until one day I saw a baby bird stuck in a canal. Her leg was under a rock and she was struggling against the current. I saw her there and my heart.melted. I don't know what came over me that day but I just knew I had to climb over the fence and into that canal to rescue the damn bird. Now she's free. I nursed her back to health and let her go. Maybe I wasn't an expert at the whole animal healer thing (I was 8) but it did give me a huge confidence boost, and being loved by that cute little bird was like the worlds way of telling me "okay, buddy. The bird loves you, you're cool" and ever since that day I knew I wanted to become a vet, and started to actually have confidence in my desicion to become a vet!

Awesome thread, twinnie

If I ever feel down, all I have to do is cuddle with my sweet dog and she'll always make me feel better. I love her so much!
