Why We All Need More Hugs
“Hugs have
power.
They have the power to lower stress levels. They have the power to build a connection between us and other humans.
Stress levels don’t just feel like they decrease during the hug from a loved one, science backs that feeling up.
Did you know that science proves that hugging the people closest to you on a regular basis, even if the hugs are brief, can affect your brain and body in positive ways?
Tiffany Field, one of the world’s leading touch researchers and the director of the Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami in Florida, says, “They found that, in fact, people who were given this stressful task, if they’d been holding hands or being hugged, they would have a lower blood pressure and lower heart rate, suggesting that they were less stressed.”
Cool facts to be aware of
1. Hugs come with great health benefits, one of which is lowering your blood pressure
2. Hugging reduces your stress levels, making you less at risk for heart disease
3. Regular hugs can also reduce inflammation in your body, lowering your risk of stroke
4. Hugging can boost your immune system, lowering your chance of catching colds and other common illnesses
5. A hug helps your body produce more dopamine, resulting in less symptoms of depression
6. The production of oxytocin when you collect a hug can boost memory function”

@innatejoy9602 thank you for sharing this! I didn’t know about most of these health benefits from hugging but it certainly makes sense.
I hug my loved ones very often. Some i wish I can hug more.
I wonder if this would be the same for eye gazing?

I hadn't thought of eye gazing! I feel it would be a bit too awkward for me :P
But, I can see how some would like it! 💜
Oh it’s always awkward to begin with! But I found that drifts away if you’re able to ride it out. It builds trust and intimacy. But I can probably only do it with certain people.

I love to hug people myself, but hugging is NOT welcome everywhere in the world. It simple is not done in many cultures. Too awkward. Kissing on the lips is frequently done without romantic feelings in certain parts. In many countries, people simply do not touch each other unless they are out of sight and intimate.
If 7cups is considered an international website, these things should be kept in mind.

This post is awesome and incredibly true! Thank you!
I love hugs! Sending *virtual hug* to everyone who needs it.
Hugging someone close to your heart really makes you feel happy and secured. I even hug my pets, too.

@innateJoy9602
@innateJoy9602 THIS IS SO TRUE! Sometimes when I'm having an awful day, all it takes is a hug from one of my best friends and I feel better. Consentual closeness with people you care about can really make you feel safe, loved, and appreciated. :)
