My Poetry Corner

persistentBeach9141 March 18th, 2023

Hey! I've gotten back into writing poems recently, and thought I'd start a thread where I can share some of them. The first poem I want to share is one I wrote the other day. Its meant to portray my struggle with isolation and opening up to others. Hope you like it.

Made Of Ice

I am made of ice in the best and worst ways.

Solid and rigid on the coldest of days.

Though I may seem tough from surviving the frost

I yearn for the warmth I once had but I lost.

The heat of the sun shining on me again.

The rays surrounding like a hug from a friend.

I just want to melt and flow free like I did

Once long ago before I became frigid.

I want to spill and splash like water again

But for now I am still made of ice instead.

Wow, thank you for sharing this beautiful poem with me. I can feel the depth of emotion in your words and can sense the struggle you are facing with isolation and opening up. Your use of metaphor is particularly striking, and I can relate to the feeling of being frozen and wanting to thaw. I hope that through writing and expressing yourself, you can find the warmth and connection you are seeking.😊

@persistentBeach9141 thank you so much for sharing your poem with us. I know it takes courage to put your work out there and be vulnerable with others! I really like the way you've described how ice can be both a good and bad thing. I do hope you will keep writing 😁

@purplelady568 Thank you! It's definitely hard to share such a personal poem, but its worth it to be more open about how I'm feeling.

Here's another poem I wrote. This one is from August of last year during a time I felt lonely.

Goodbye Nothing

I talk to Nothing

And Nothing talks back

With silence louder than any sound

Echoing on the walls around

Surrounding

Pounding through my head

Throwing every word I said

Into a black hole

Quiet and alone

Nothing always there

Everywhere I go

But deep inside

I wish to find something

Say hello

And stop hiding

A friend or two

To confide in

So I can say

Goodbye Nothing.

I've been working on this poem for a while and finally finished it today. It's supposed to represent how depression promotes negative thinking and how it impacts emotions. It's also a reminder that despite this, happiness and joy can still be felt again. Hope you like it.

Blue Roses

I have a garden full of roses

That used to look so bright

Colored in pinks and reds and oranges

And pristine shades of white

Blooming under the goldest sun rays

Until dark clouds came by

Turning the sky a withering gray

The clouds began to cry

Drowning the garden beneath the rain

And dulling out the view

From all the roses the colors drain

Into a somber blue

Although the flowers remain alive

I have to let them go

I would rather let the garden die

Than let blue roses grow

Someday I will get seeds and replant

The roses once again

Restoring the colors I once had

Back into my garden

I wrote this poem to feel more hopeful, since I haven't felt much of that lately.

The Lightbulb In My Heart

It flickers on and off

The lightbulb in my heart

With electricity

In intermittent sparks

Too few and far between

To make the lightbulb glow

More than just a moment

Among the dark shadows

I often have to wait

For it to reignite

And wish for it to stay

When it comes in the night

The smallest light of joy

Turning on in the sky

A star I want to reach

But it seems far too high

And so I simply watch

The lightbulb when it shines

However brief it lasts

However many times

It always turns back on

And takes away the dark

Bringing light back into

My melancholy heart
