@QuietMagic

How are you feeling today?

today feeling lost in the darkness within. been a ok day but thoughts of our kids we not seen in over 20 years. someday harder then others. also think about the lost of the love we thought we was to get from our now ex hubby  and the abuse he did to us.  grieving  what should have been  but was not in our family we was born into. this to from before birth was abuse too. so our mind keep drifting into the darkness we lived in for so very long.

 What does the word "love" mean to you?

love to  us is the deep heart of caring and treating another with respected. this love is from within it more then  a feeling . it  a commitment to another. this can be to a friend or family member or yes a partner.  it wanting the best for the other person. being  willing to put their  needs before your wants. so  to us love is a action word not just a feeling.

Sorry that the darkness has been all-consuming lately. ☹ Makes sense that those experiences/memories (i.e. not seeing kids for decades, relationship with ex-husband betraying expectations/hopes and turning abusive) would be things where once they pop up, they crowd out everything else.

I like the distinction you made between 1) feeling good while around someone versus 2) love as committing to doing what's best for someone else even if it sometimes involves personal sacrifices. That kind of positive intention feels pretty flexible too; what you do to express care depends on what the other person needs/wants.

@QuietMagic

thank you

even in  putting other need first it within boundaries as not wanting to enable  the other person either.  so there a thin line between the two. as not a doormat for them either.
