Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT)- any good?

bestSailboat6474 February 25th, 2016

Hi, I was recently diagnosed with BPD. Where I live there is no proper DBT but the health service does offer a small group course in the basics of DBT which I am currently undertaking. The health service is also offering me CAT (cognitive analytic therapy). Does anyone know about this type of therapy and if BDP can be sucessfully treated by it? Thank you.

Hi,

I've heard of CAT and I know of a CAT therapist in my locality who has a good reputation. There's some evidence that the success of therapy depends more on the therapist and your relationship with the therapist than on the style of therapy. That would tend to make me think that CAT is worth a try.

There's an article about one BPD sufferer's experience of CAT here:

Thank you @RarelyCharlie- this is really interesting. I am going to give it 110%.

I so want to be rid of bpd and enjoy life again without the mask, the fear, the self hatred, the awkwardness of being me and the stress of it all.
