So, I left work 2 hours earlier on Tuesday because I was having a really bad allergic reaction to a shampoo I used Monday evening. My face was had red bumps all over and it was very itchy. Normal over-the-counter allergy medication did not work. Got home, and found i had prescription medication. Took that before bed and stayed home on Wednesday. The allergies were getting better by the afternoon, but I started having abdominal pain since the morning. The pain is on and off, and sometimes it's a sudden sharp pain, or a very dull ache. It lasted into Thursday, where I went back to work. But once I completed my primary tasks, I checked myself into ER. Was there for nearly 4 hours. Bloodwork showed my white blood cells are high, which means there's some sort of inflammation going on.. was asked my the ER doctor to get an ultrasound done on Friday, then check back in with them for the results. I went over to the department to see if I could an appointment for tomorrow. They tell me the outpatient list is fully booked, asked me to call them 10am in the morning.

It's 2:20am now.. I'm having trouble sleeping.. too worried about the pain and what's causing it.. all day Thursday, I had a nurse help me check my vitals twice in my shift.. and my pulse and blood pressure is much higher than normal, so she suspects there's something definitely going on in my body. And with the bloodwork results, that seconds her guess. Now, I just hope there's a spot for me to do the ultrasound sometime on Friday. The only thing is, I need to be on an empty stomach.. and with whatever the results come out to be, if surgery is needed, I could do it there right away too. And will continue to be an empty stomach. When I went to ask about the appointment, they said there's a spot on Saturday at 3pm, but I was like, the ER Doctor told me to get it done on Friday, so I'll just call them in the morning.

I am so, so sorry that you are feeling so rotten. That is always a little scary until you start to get some explanations.

Take it one step at a time. Lots of thinking the worst about what it might be will just keep your blood pressure high and increase your anxiety.

You are going to figure out the next step. Do lots of deep breathing and eating and drinking water when you are able to. @Jaeteuk

And you know what, when I went to work on Thursday, one if my colleagues asked me how I was feeling, I said not feeling very well. Allergies are fine, but something else is bothering me. Her reply was "that's too bad". What kind of response is that? She might as well not ask me if she doesn't really care for my honest answer. They might hear about it this morning.. as the charge nurse last night said she left a note for the desk clerk that I went into Emergency.

I know that response wasn't the best. But remember there is chance that she too was suddenly faced with something and just said the wrong thing. Overall you have some supportive colleagues at work. Lean on the supportive ones and ignore the problematic ones right now.@Jaeteuk

I'm back in Emergency to see my results. The doctor says he's going to order a CT Scan, as when I described to him the pain I'm having today, he suspects it's my appendix, and the ultrasound didn't show it. So, now, more waiting.

So, I ended up staying overnight in the ER from Friday night. Was finally discharged Saturday around 1pm, but I'll need to return to the Outpatients Department for the next 4 days for IV therapy. So, continuously have an IV stuck in my arm, and return there daily for antibiotics fluids for 30mins until Wednesday. They will reassess my condition on Wednesday to see if further treatment is needed. So, I'll be calling in sick for the first 3 days of the week to begin with. As I can't really work with the discomfort of the IV wrapped up to my arm, and won't have the energy to do the work that is expected of me while on a clear fluid diet for 7 days. But I think, even if further treatment is not needed, I'll still call in sick for the rest of the week just so my body can recover from this diet and the lack of rest.

I haven't really slept much since Thursday night. As I only slept for about 2 hours Thurs night, then went to work Friday. Staying overnight in ER in a reclining chair.. with two other male patients in my area for the night.. where one snored and the other kept getting up to the washroom every hour.. the one that slept the most, poor guy.. he has sleep apnea, so he was woken up by nurses every 2 hours to check up on him. I was awake the entire night. As my sleeping environment at home.. is pitch black and the sound of my air purifier fan turned on (acts like a noise cancelation to other noises around the house my family makes).. but the nurses' conversations kept me entertained. I took my glasses off, closed my eyes and rested them. But couldn't sleep or nap at all.

When I got home this afternoon, I took a shower and went to bed. But couldn't really sleep. I'm not exactly sleepy for some reason. And it's uncomfortable no matter how I have my arm with that IV wrapped to it now. So, I think I'll just wake up and maybe sit around on a couch or something. Pay some bills before I forget. And maybe wait until nighttime before I try and sleep again. Since I can drink clear fluids.. maybe I'll drink some chamomile tea.. as it's known to suppose help with sleep.

What a rough night! Sleep in a hospital is just so hard. The only place that you can really rest is when you get home.

Did they decide what it was? Are the IV antibiotics a way for your body to start recovering?

The tea definitely sounds like a good idea. It is also great that you are going to take some time off.  I hope that you have a beautiful night to rest and recover.@Jaeteuk

Aside from the medical term, it's basically an infected abscess that grew out from the outer wall of my colon. Because it's infected, I got the pain. Doc consulted with a General Surgeon last night, saying that surgery is not needed, but to use the antibiotics to control it from further damage. Because if the hole in the abscess gets bigger, it will be a danger to my other organs. That's why my oral antibiotic is 500mg. And on top, need it through the IV the next few days.

Well it sounds like it is really good that you were paying attention to your body and that you caught it in time. In some ways that part is a bit of a relief.

I hope that today was less painful and you were able to get some sleep. @Jaeteuk

The pain is much lesser now. But I feel my body is still fighting the infection because my blood pressure and pulse is still higher than normal. I got 5 hours of sleep last night.. it was on/off of snoozing throughout the night. Either being waking up by the discomfort of the IV or I had to use the washroom. Since I'm drinking just fluids, I'm frequenting the washroom more often.

I was discharged from the IV Therapy today. Given a new antibiotic prescription to take at home, and referred to the on-call General Surgeon to follow-up with a colonoscopy. Coincidentally, the on-call General Surgeon this morning is the same Dr that told me last Thursday that I don't need to go to Emergency to get my abdominal pain checked out.

I can ease out of my fluid diet, starting with soft foods.

I think I'll still take the remaining of the week off, just to let my body recover from the lack of sleep and energy in foods I eat.

I was discharged from the IV Therapy today. My arm was starting to bruise around the area of the IV, so it's good that it can be removed. Given a new antibiotic prescription to take at home for the next 2 weeks, and referred to the on-call General Surgeon to follow-up with a colonoscopy. Coincidentally, the on-call General Surgeon this morning is the same Dr that told me last Thursday that I don't need to go to Emergency to get my abdominal pain checked out. Going to surprise him.

I can also ease out of my fluid diet, starting with soft foods. I think I'll still take the remaining of the week off, just to let my body recover from the lack of sleep and energy in foods I eat. Health is definitely more important than the lack of staff at work. I bumped into one colleague in the hallway as she was bringing specimen to the lab, I gave her a heads-up that I'll most likely return next week, to allow my body to recover.

Giving your body time to recover is the best thing to be doing right now. You won't be able to work well anyway.

Sorry that you ended up back with the doctor that first dismissed your pain. But it is good for him to see that he misdiagnosed you.

Take the recovery a step at a time. Hopefully the sleep and more energy will start to come soon. @Jaeteuk

So, I called the office yesterday for the General Surgeon doing my Colonoscopy, left a message and received the call this morning. It has been booked 2 months from the admittance to the ER, so it will be for end of April. I asked about the antibiotics and diarrhea, the secretary says that it's common, and it's more severe because of my condition. So, since I have another 6 days of antibiotics, until next Tuesday. I probably won't be able to work my scheduled Mon-Wed of next week. I've emailed my Manager telling her this latest update, and said I'll return to work most likely the following week, to cover a colleague's vacation for the last 2 weeks of March instead.

I know that it probably doesn't feel like it, but you are headed a good direction. The antibiotics will eventually finish and your bowels will settle.

Are you getting some good rest in? I hope that you are finding some solid distractions with your free time.

Sending lots of peace. @Jaeteuk

I've been reading a lot, and our family has changed our diet.. ever since my condition, and we discovered a good diet to follow. It has been just over a week since we started. And we see changes in our cravings already. We even bought the book, which also consists of 100 recipes. I've also been needing to take naps in the afternoon.

I'm not exactly looking forward to going back to work in 2 weeks, but at least I haven't had any shifts arranged for April and onwards yet. So, it's just 2 weeks of work and I'm off again.

I received an email this morning.. Manager sent it out to all the OR staff.. saying that things have been busy these couple of weeks, with short-staff of the Aides (myself, and the other staff had been off for 2 months), and thanked all the nurses that have been helping out with our tasks. Manager mentioned names to 2 Aides that were thankful that the nurses helped them out.. and mentioned that I will continue to be off for tomorrow and next Mon-Wed, and ask all the staff to continue with the help when possible.

You are headed in a good direction of letting your body heal. It is great that you are trying some new recipes and changes in diet. It can be hard to do. I have been working this year myself on eating much less meat.

Your work will find a way forward without you for a bit longer. @Jaeteuk

Less meat is good, we're actually following the diet where we change to order of foods we eat per meal, lowers the glucose. If you're interested, you can check out the Glucose Goddess. A French Biochemist who studied a lot about glucose, and how we could eat to lessen a glucose spike, stay full longer, without cravings in between meals. Been eating according to her diet, using the recipes from her book, we all see changes in our food cravings.

I have to start thinking how I can be eating the same way at work too.

I am definitely better at certain meals that others. Dinner is more healthy, but lunch isn't all that good since I usually eat at work. But I will keep working on it. Better diet is really a long term process. But less glucose and processed sugar is an excellent place to work on what you are eating. @Jaeteuk

So, I went to see the Locum GP this morning. She was about to get up and leave, and I was like, "can I ask you 2 questions? Do you speak/understand Cantonese? Because my dad will come see you in an hour, and it'll be easier if he can use Cantonese." Then, I said, "I don't often bump into someone with the same first and last name of a person I once met, where you ever in Scouting? Sea Scouts? She said yes. She didn't recognize me, but when I mentioned my brother's name, she remembered him. When I was getting up to leave the little room, I was like, I'm glad I asked you, otherwise, I'd be thinking about it all day. So that was cool. I went home and told my brother before he left for work, that it is the same girl from Scouts. He was like, wow, can't believe she became a doctor. If I remember correctly, she a few years younger than I and it seems like she's married, as she has a ring.

So, with this appointment, it was to follow up with asking why I still feel extreme fatigue during the duration of my period. Although starting this month, I'm only getting some spotting during the usual time, but the fatigue is still lingering. I told her, it's so severe, that I could fall asleep sitting. She was like, I see you have a Gynaecologist. I told her, I went to the Gynaecologist before and asked about the fatigueness, and it was that doctor who told me to see my GP, as it has nothing to do with the IUD. So, this Locum, ordered some bloodwork for me. I then asked her, to check off everything, like doing a physical exam, as I said, I don't think I've ever tested for cholesterol and such before. Since she ordered the fasting glucose, I've purposely booked the appointment for early April. I figured, the time my period comes is in the first week of the month; so I thought, maybe it'll be more accurate to check the Iron and the other things during that time.

The fatigue was the first thing I wanted to ask her about, since this appointment was made before my ER visit. The second question was about my ER visit and what I was diagnosed with. I mentioned briefly that I work in the Hospital, and spoke with a General Surgeon briefly for a consult before I first checked myself into ER. The Surgeon mentioned something about Chronic Constipation. I asked the Locum about it. Told her that my mum says even as a baby, my stool had always been hard and dry. I said I searched online and said there was some sort of disease found in infancy that affects the colon. She said, if I did have the problem, it would've still be noticed when I was younger. I asked her, is there a way to test for it now, she says No. But, when I searched online, I saw that a General Surgeon while doing a colonoscopy, can take a biopsy to check for it. So, maybe I'll mention something about it when I go for my colonoscopy in end of April. For now, the Locum just suggested I take some laxatives, or try to have intake of more fibre and whole fruits & vegetables. I told my mum about it, she says, to try the fruits & vegetables first, before trying the other over-the-counter product.

So, this morning, for breakfast, I had some toast with avocado. And after eating, I noticed the filling for a chipped tooth in January is gone. So, after my appointment with the Locum, I went to my dental office, walked in and asked if I can see the dentist today. Reception booked me in for 1.5 hours later. I went back at that time, and waited for like 45 minutes in the dental chair (apparently the receptionist squeezed me in at the dentist's lunch break). So, I was hoping that he could do the filling again, as the previous one was done by his son, thought it fell off because of the lack of experience. But after he looked at it, he says a crown is more ideal, because now, half of my tooth is missing, and every time a filling is needed, they need to shave off part of the tooth. So, there really isn't much tooth left if he puts another filling on. My parents have said that this dental office is a rip-off in price. So, we recently found out, that a family friend's daughter is a dentist. She will move back to our hometown, officially in May. But for now, is in a Dental Centre once a week. I just called the office, there is an opening March 28th at 10am. I just took the appointment, then, I realized, I have to work.. but my shift starts at noon, so even as an examination, the appointment will only take one hour, so I should still be able to make it work on time. If not, I'll just have to call them saying I'll be running late, as I probably should have lunch first before I head to work. Now, I'll just look like I have half a tooth missing, it's very noticeable, as it's the tooth on the left of my front teeth. People won't know at work, since we need to wear a mask. But I can feel the gap with my tongue, and I'll have to be more careful with the foods I eat until that crown is made, don't want more of the tooth to break, otherwise, it would be an implant that's needed and not just a crown.

Sorry for a very long post. It seems like many things happened in one day all of a sudden. The tooth was unexpected.

My dad's appointment, he went to get an x-ray of his lungs after seeing the Locum, as he mentioned he seemed to be more easily out of breath when walking uphill or playing sports. And doctor also booked him for a Stress Test with a Cardiologist. I got a call at home from the Cardiologist's office after my dental appointment. Dad's appointment isn't until end of June. He's also getting more bloodwork done, as the previous one did not test for the fasting glucose.

Long messages are fine. I am glad that you got to see someone that you knew and asked lots of medical questions. You are getting the right tests done. Low iron is a good cause of fatigue, but there are lots of other possibilities.

Sorry about the tooth but it sounds like you are on the right path to a better dentist. It can takea while to find someone who you are comfortable with.

It sounds like you are feeling better overall which is good. I hope that you continue to heal. @Jaeteuk

My dad saw the locum afterwards and found out she's only at this office for 2 weeks. So, too bad she's not here to stay. My GP is on vacation for 2 months, so I was hoping this locum will stay longer. Oh well, it was nice to see her, even if she doesn't remember me.

I've got some bad news, my brother went into the office today, and for lunch, went out with a good friend. Only to hear for him, that his dad is not doing so well the past 4 weeks. Something about his lymph nodes, that is making his severely fatigued. That he's so tired that he can't even talk. Their family is a family friend of ours, the parents were a couple my parents knew back in Hong Kong, before both of our families came to Canada. We stayed in touch throughout our high school years.. and over the decades, we've lost touch in between, but when we moved back into our hometown more than 7 years ago. My brother will meet up with one of their sons' for lunch. My parents only contacted his parents every so often. But with this current news of his dad's health suddenly deterioriating, my brother asked my mum to contact him. We also asked my brother to recommend him to go to the Urgent Care Centre. They currently have a GP, but he/she only works once a week. Although they booked him for a CT Scan, but it may take months. So, we asked the son to suggest to try to Urgent Care Centre. Where my dad went for his enlarged thyroid, although he's doing an Ultrasound and not a CT, but being the same healthcare system, when the Doctor at Urgent Care sends in the requisition, it will still be quicker compared to a GP doing it. Otherwise, we said, the quickest will be to go to Emergency. He's a couple of years younger than my dad.

I can't imagine what will happen if he doesn't get better.. they lost their eldest daughter from a rare type of leukemia more than 10 years ago. Then, the mum fell into depression.. she's still grieving.. We invited the family over for BBQ last summer, and the elder son is married with two kids, the youngest is still single, they all came over. Now, with the dad's health like this.. my parents are worried that his condition will just worst. So, we hope that the son will take his dad to try Urgent Care, or take him to Emergency, to get his condition checked asap.

The news came with a heavy heart.

Since yesterday, the lump on my dad's neck is starting to hurt. He says, before, when he first went into Urgent Care to see the doctor, it did not hurt. He only felt that it's uncomfortable whenever he swallows. But starting yesterday afternoon, he says swallowing causes the lump to hurt, and that it also hurts when he presses on it. He had trouble sleeping last night, because he scared himself as he searched online that it may be thyroid cancer. Last night, I told my mum, that thyroid cancer is common in people 70+, as I see many patients every Friday at the hospital getting the cancer removed. I'm not sure if my mum told my dad about it though.

So my mum said, if dad is still not feeling so well tonight and tomorrow morning, they will walk into Emergency. My dad is the type of person that doesn't have much patience. So when we went into Urgent Care the past Tuesday, and the doctor says that he will send the requisition for the ultrasound into the hospital.. that we should expect a call from them either end of this week or early next week.. My dad impatience kept questioning everyday, whether or not the call came from the hospital yet. At first, he was asking me to stop by Medical Imaging during my shift tomorrow, and ask if the ultrasound appointment has been booked yet. But, if my dad ends up going into Emergency tomorrow, then, maybe they'll do the ultrasound then. I heard from my mum, he had to take a pain medicine last night before bed.

I am sorry that your dad is so scared and impatient right now. I can understand your concern and his.

But the best thing that you can do right now is try as much as you can to avoid being scared and impatient with him. He needs your strength and peace. I know what I am asking is hard, but you have the strength to do it. Think of how hard you have battled all of your own medical conditions in the last few weeks.@Jaeteuk

So, his ER visit was only about 6 hours long. Had blood test and ultrasound. Turns out to be a cyst growing by the thyroid. They got a referral to an Endocrinologist, which they will need to call tomorrow to book an appointment with. The specialist will decide what can be done. So, we're still not sure if it needs to be surgically removed or if there are meds to decrease the size. It's now the size of a large egg. The ER doctor prescribed some painkillers for the time being. At least it's not cancerous, so that's a relief. Hopefully dad will be able to sleep better Monday night.

I bet that he will be able to sleep better. It grew so quickly that the cyst makes sense in terms of a diagnosis.

Hopefully he can now sleep a bit better and then move forward to a treatment plan.

I'm okay. We try telling him to not worry about it. He was getting worried that his Thyroid results were high, but we explained that it's because he went for the bloodwork without taking his medication. And he was not happy that the appointment with the specialist isn't until April 8th.. but we tell him, as a Specialist appointment, that's already fairly quick. The older my dad got, like after turning 70 (which was 3 years ago), he's been thinking more negatively. So, my mum is always trying to teach him to be more positive. My brother and I used to correct him right away, or tell him the good side of things.. but we've lessened, because my dad feels upset if we tell him too often that his negative thinking is wrong. So, now we kinda just tell my mum about what we think about dad (when he's not around), and get her to pass the message on. He tends to listen to mum more than us nowadays.

If you're asking about my infection condition. After finishing my antibiotics last Monday, I'm still feel slight pain in the same area of my abdomen about 3-5 times a day. I told one of the nurses about it, and she made me call the office. So, I left a voicemail saying that I would like to see the General Surgeon before my colonoscopy, either a phone call or in-clinic appointment is fine. I also asked for them to call back in the morning if possible, as I need to work in the afternoon. So, I'm hoping to get a call back in the next couple of days. It's Spring Break over here, so, he might be on vacation. Apparently he's not working in the OR this week, and isn't returning until next Wednesday. But our clerk isn't sure if it's because he's on vacation or if he's just working at the other hospital.

The pain I feel now, the level of pain is much lower than previously, and it's much less frequent. So I'm not sure if it's a psychological thing or the infection is acting up because I've finished the antibiotics for a week already. I've been checking my blood pressure, and it's back to normal. And I've booked my bloodwork appointment for April 5th. The Locum was just going to check the infection type of bloodwork, but I requested the full physical exam bloodwork, since I haven't had that done for years. So, I had to book a morning appointment as I'll need to fast the night before. Since I don't have any shifts yet for April, the quickest morning appointment is April 5th. I also purposely chose the beginning of the month because I wanted to check my iron levels during the time I usually get my period. I wanted to see if the low iron levels during that time is the reason why I feel the extreme fatigue.

I ran into my Manager in the hallway today, she asked how I was feeling. I told her my diagnosis, and that the antibiotics given to me caused a lot of diarrhea, that's why I couldn't work.. and that I'm booked for a colonoscopy end of April too. She then went on to say that the posting of the relief full-time line will be taken down today. So, she hopes after getting that sorted out, see who the lucky candidate is, then, she'll be able to arrange shifts for me. So, she says it should be fairly soon, maybe by next week, she'll have a better scope on when I'll be working. I told her, I heard from a colleague that she hired the colleague's daughter as an extra Casual that will be starting her training in April. Manager says, yea, she thinks another extra Casual like me, will help when they are scrambling for staff. She also mentioned, she could give the other Casual shifts so that I get time off. I said, yea, it'll be nice to have a second Casual when I'm sick (like this time where I was off for 3 weeks and another colleague was off for 2 months), that having a second Casual would be able to replace me and we won't be short-staffed, also, it would help when we have 2 colleagues on vacation at the same time. Rather than have me work overtime hours to cover shifts, having that extra Casual to work, we won't be as short-staffed.

You mentioned before how worried and depressed that your father gets as he gets older. My dad definitely did something similar and he would worry about every little medical thing. It is perhaps easier for him to talk to your mom because she too is getting older and recognizes the worries better. What you can do best is just cheer your father up in general by distracting him.

It sounds like you are doing a good job in figuring out your own medical stuff and your upcoming work schedule. It is best to rule out whatever is worrying you by talking to the doctor. Even if it is just in your mind, it doesn't mean that the pain isn't painful. I hope that you gets lots of answers soon. @Jaeteuk

Parents have a group of good friends too. There is one older couple, they don't have kids.. that always ask them to have a meal together. The Auntie worked as a cooking teacher in Hong Kong before. So she cooks really fancy meals. Turns out on Thursday afternoon, she suddenly asked my parents to go to their place for dinner and play Mahjong too. As she knows the kinds of foods my dad should avoid eating for his current condition, she cooks for of a healthy diet. Nothing spicy or fried/grilled. So, that was nice. An unplanned invitation to dinner.

I waited all of Thursday morning gor the call back from the doctor's office. Nobody called. I arrived at work earlier, so sat in the lounge, staring at my phone for 20 minutes until 5 minutes before my shift, to see if the MOA will call me. So now, I'll be waiting Friday morning to see if I get the call.

Thursday at work, the first 3 hours of my shift, I had felt a dull ache in my abdomen on the specific area. The nurses had been really busy today that I couldn't ask them to help take my blood pressure. After the 3 hours, the pain moved to my lower back. Which means, it turned to a type of soreness I get during menstruation, a stiff lower back. But if I remembered correctly, that dull achy pain was what I had felt 2 days before I first checked myself into the Emergency. So, I'll have to really be on alert on Friday of my pain levels. If the pain becomes more severe during certain movements, then it's more obvious that it may be a flare-up. Which will mean another trip down to the Emergency. I was joking about it on Wednesday with one of the nurses I'm closer with, saying that the bruise on my arm where the IV was removed from is still there, that I really fon6want to be poked with another needle again. It's been 3 weeks, and I'm still bruised.

I so hope that the rest of your day went smoothly. You are probably quite attune at the moment to every little shift in pain levels. I hope things settle down soon.

It is great that your parents' friends were so kind. I am sure that your dad appreciated it.

But focus as much as you can on you getting better right now. Take it slow when you can. @Jaeteuk

My mum called me during my break, says they found an opening for an appointment to get my bloodwork done. So, it will be for tomorrow morning, rather than April 5th. Which is good, because the GP ordered a physical check up along with 3 other tests that will indicate whether or not my condition is still inflamed. If it is, then those numbers will be on the higher side.. but it might not hit the numbers compared to before, which was in the 100s.

Today went okay, the pain subsided in the middle of my shift, but it still hurts if I put pressure on the area.

My dad is not doing good though, heard from my mum that he lost his appetite for dinner tonight. The cyst is affecting the nerves on his neck, so he's in pain. The GP yesterday prescribed stronger pain medication, so he went to get the prescription today and ended up taking one. I really hope he gets to see the Endocrinologist sooner than April 8th. The GP says there is no medication to shrink the cyst, and the only way to remove it as surgically.

So one day at a time for both of you. I hope that your pain levels for tomorrow are much improved over today.

You are figuring out a way forward. @Jaeteuk

So, I don't have work until April 22nd. Over this past Easter long weekend, my brother paid and upgraded a program where we will now work together on. Relaunching our business. We will have a designated coach for the next 12 months to help us through along the way. We have a Zoom meeting as a kickoff start this Thursday morning, which both my brother and I will attend. We are aiming only for success this time. Hopefully, it will help pay some bills and expenses for our household, and maybe earn enough to have a family vacation (we haven't gone on a real vacation as a family of four for more than a decade). I actually don't remember when was the last time the four of us went on vacation together. So that would be like a surprise for our parents.

I'm waiting for a phone call appointment this morning from my GP, to discuss about my bloodwork results. Also, my dad is seeing an Endocrinologist tomorrow, which I will also go with him to. Hopefully they allow both my mum and I to go inside the office together with my dad. My parents understanding of English isn't that good, so, I'm almost like their translator or at least help them listen in on what the Doctor has to say to make sure they understand what is being said.

Oh, did I mention that another problematic colleague is joining our team? She starts the same week I return to work. Not looking forward to it, but just like how the current problematic colleague I have now, I avoid going into the same work space area, when she's there. So, I think for now, I'll have to avoid that area where she will be working in. The good news is, we only have 2.5hrs where our shifts overlap. And I'll also be training a new Casual on Tuesday and Wednesday of my work week. With more days of training in May. She is the daughter of one of our clerks, she just finished the course, so works as a Casual both in the department below us, and now, the OR too.

At the end of this month, after my week of work, I have the colonoscopy. A bit nervous about it, but I know my doctor is one of the best of the team of surgeons of General Surgery. So, I'm hoping things go smoothly. Aside from using sedation for dental appointments, this will be my first local anesthesia. Hopefully my body will react well to it.

Sorry that it took me a little bit to get back with you.

It is great that you decided to relaunch your business. I wasn't quite sure what had happened with it. I love the idea of thinking in terms of a family vacation as a goal.

I wish you tons of luck with your appointment and your dad's appointment tomorrow. At least at the end you will know more.

You will figure out your colleague once you are back working. It sounds like you are already coming up with a plan.

I have had a colonoscopy done but it was under general anesthesia. It wasn't too bad but I had trouble with the lack of food beforehand causing me to panic a bit. But the actual procedure was easy with no real recovery time. @Jaeteuk

So, my appointment went quite well. First time that we actually talked for 10 minutes on the phone. Going over my bloodwork where everything is looking good. The only abnormality was my Vitamin B12, which she says, by the numbers, she can easily see that it's because I take supplements. So I tell her, I take a Multivitamin, and Vitamin C. So, she said, based on what the numbers read, I can stop taking the Multivitamin for at least 6 months.

I told her, with her locum, we were trying to figure out what my energy levels deplete whenever my period comes. Looking at the Iron levels, although it's within range, but it's under 100, that it may be the case. So, I asked her about taking Iron supplements. I said, I've always had problems with my bowel movements, according to my mum, since birth. As I have taken the supplement pills before, and it makes me even more constipated. So, I asked her, if she knows about Iron Injections? I told her, more than 10 years ago, my GP, had giving me Iron injections in the clinic before. During our call, she says she'll talk to her colleagues and get back to me. So, she called me back in 2 hours, saying that she will refer me to an Internal Medicine doctor that is within the same clinic. As she believes that he will have the best treatment for me to increase my iron levels, and as an Internal Medicine doctor, he will have a wider scope of information for my case. So, now, I just need to wait and hear back from her office as to when my appointment will be. But, being that it's in the same clinic, hopefully the wait is not too long.

So, with my dad's appointment.. we had all our questions answered. Her treatment recommendation, is to see a Radiologist, who will use a needle to drain the fluid within the cyst. So, I asked, if we're just draining it, it means the cyst is still there, will fluid be filled again afterwards? She says, there is a way to kind of kill the sac of the cyst.. but Radiologists are hard to persuade to use alcohol to make the cyst collapse. She said she'll send the letter in, but an appointment will not be until 2-3 months later.

In the meantime, my dad has made an appointment with an acupuncturist. My brother saw some cases online where people were able to successfully shrink their cysts through acupuncture.. So, there's a possibility that we can shrink it before the appointment. So, we'll see how it goes. He will have his first appointment this coming Saturday.

I'm a little nervous about the colonoscopy.. although it's at the end of the month.. still got a few weeks. I have a colleague's husband that had it done recently. She said they were in and out the hospital in under 2 hours. Since I was on the clear fluid diet for like 2.5 weeks because of my infection, I think to prepare for the colonoscopy will be okay. I'm used to the fluid diet from previous experience.

So you got lots of good information! That is nice.

In terms of the iron levels, when I was taking it (I am in the process of weaning myself off now), I took a pill called Gentle Iron that was only about 28 mg, I think. I usually don't need much of a medication to improve things. It didn't give me any bowel issues that a regular dose might have. I don't know if that helps you though.

It sounds like good information about your dad. Hopefully the acupuncture starts to help more quickly than having to wait for the other procedure.

I too didn't have too much trouble with the liquid diet or the medication to clear out the system before the colonoscopy. My only challenge was that my appointment was at about 2 in the afternoon and I couldn't eat after around 7 am. That not eating made my nerves go rather haywire from the waiting. But I think that I would do much better a second time. @Jaeteuk

I will see what the Internal Medicine Doctor suggests. I read about his info on the website of my medical clinic, looks like he only sees the patients that are from the clinic that is referred to him from the Physicians. So, by the looks of it, he's not a regular in-house doctor, so possibility of only once a month or as needed.

I should've chosen an earlier time, because the second cycle of using the medication to clear out the system is to be done 5-6 hours prior to my appointment, with my appointment at 10:30am, means I need to wake up in the middle of the night. Actually, the instructions says, "Five to six hours prior to your appointment, drink the remaining 2 litres of solution within 90 mins". Does that mean those 90 minutes is before the 6 hour mark, or counted within those five to six hours? Since 90 mins is 1.5hrs, does that mean I need to start drinking it at 3am, so 90mins after will be 4:30am, which will be the 6 hrs prior. Or do I start drinking it at 4:30am?

I would probably go with the 4:30 am and then try to get it done by 5 am. That should give you time to get it through your system without having to get up too, too early. That 10:30 am time sounds like a good one.

Good luck. @Jaeteuk

It sounds a bit crazy to finish drinking 2L in 30 minutes. But, I like the idea of waking at 4:30am rather than 2am. I won't be able to sleep for the night anyways. Like the usual, whenever I have doctor's appointment in the morning, I always never get a good night's sleep. So, I'll probably wake up at least once or twice through the night.

I found that it was much easier to finish drinking the liquid in the time that they gave me than I thought it would be. You just keep siping fairly regularly.

You will know from the earlier drinking how long it taking you to get down each amount.

I would think sleep would be harder to come by no matter what. But you can do this. Keep thinking of it as little steps rather than a giant event. @Jaeteuk

So, during my dinner break at work today. A nurse came in halfway, suddenly asked if I've ever raised dogs before. She was wondering if I'd be interested to house-sit her Frenchie when she goes on vacation with her family. I told her I'll have to ask my mum and see if she'd let me stay at her place. She said she had her dog at her sister's over the Spring Break for 2.5 weeks, and her dog was very stressed. At 6 months only, being in an unfamiliar environment. She would rather someone stay over at her place and take care of her puppy while she's away for vacation.

The nurse says she trusts me. That's why she asked if I'd be up for it. She says her next family vacation will be in August. I can treat it like my own vacation. Staying in an all inclusive condo, she said she'd pay me and have the fridge full of food. It would be an interesting experience. Her place is close to mine, I pass by it every time before, when I went to my dentist.

So, a colleague messaged me early yesterday (Sunday) morning, asking if I could work for her today. Her Co-op at a fire in 3:15am the past Saturday. She asked me to call her at the beginning of my dinner break tonight. Saying that she at first was told she was able to go back into her suite today, but was told they aren't allowed back yet. As restorations are needed for the building, she's no longer sure if she can come to work for the remaining of the week. She wanted to talk to me to see what my schedule is like and if I could cover for her. She says if she's not allowed back in her unit, she will have to find a place to stay.. and she doesn't know how long it would take before they tell her it's okay to move back. Her cat is stressed and she almost had a breakdown while talking on the phone with me. She stayed at her daughter's over the weekend, but if it takes months before they can live in the suite, she's going to have to find a temporary place to stay.

I have plans of my own this week, with appointments on Wed and Thurs.. and I have to check my schedule for tomorrow and Friday. Plus, I know that even if I can't work, the staff will be able to work things out. They have before and since I originally had this week and next week off, my schedule is kind of packed already.

My brother and I are giving it another go in re-launching our business. He paid extra money so that we get a one-on-one coach for 6 months. So, there are live courses that I can attend everyday Monday to Friday to learn the material, as a refresher. We are aiming for success only this time. That's what I'm spending the majority of my days without work doing. So, like today, I wasted a day of working on the business as I agreed to fill in for the absence for my colleague.

I think that it is perfectly lovely that you were asked to watch your colleague's dog. You would be perfect for it! You are quite trustworthy. That does sound like a really nice time to be out on your own a bit.

That sounds like such a stressful situation for your colleague. Every little bit that you can help I am sure would be greatly appreciated. Fires can be so devastating because they rip your life apart.

I am so glad that you attempting to relaunch the business as well. Each time that you try you learn more. And a new coach is awesome.

I am glad that things are going pretty well for you at the moment.@Jaeteuk

I had no idea what to say to comfort her. She's just lucky that the fire isn't at her end of the co-op. I just told her that I hope things work out for her. Whether that as being able to return to her suite sooner, or that she'll find a place to stay until they give her to okay to return. I'm thinking though, insurance should cover the extra expenses if she'll be needing to find a temporary place to live.

I'm doing everything I can to try and keep my mind away from that new problematic staff that will be joining our team for the next 7 months.

I'll be joining my parents for lunch tomorrow, my aunt is taking the Skytrain over to us and we'll have lunch together down the hill in a Chinese Restaurant. But first of all, I need to attend a workshop for my business/course. So, I told my parents they'll have to arrive first, and I'll drive myself down there after my lesson. I'm hoping it's only an hour long, so from 10 to 11am, and my parents made reservations for 11am. So they can sit and chat for a bit.

So, I ended up attending 2 workshops today. One in the morning, and one at 3pm. The lunch went well, I was actually a bit worried that my bowels will act up because I haven't eaten out much, or that was my first time in that restaurant. But luckily, nothing happened afterwards. It was nice to see my Aunt, all healthy, not exactly very happy though. I chatted with her more, as I walked with her in the mall, as she made her way to the Skytrain station. While we parted ways with my parents after walking out from the restaurant as they needed to go make a return of a cupboard somewhere. It was nice to have a short chat with my Aunt. I just asked her random questions about her daily life, like how many times she ate out with friends for lunch, or if over the weekends, she'd go out for dinner with my cousin. My cousin (her daughter), they all live under the same roof. Before COVID, I knew they went out to eat either on the Saturday or Sunday. So, when I asked my Aunt, she says they now order take-out and they would go pick up the order, rather than have it delivered to save money. I asked her about her grandkids, how they were doing in school. Since she had to hurry back to pick them up from school, I asked her how long it takes for her to use transit to get back home. As she'll need to go home first, then use her car to get the kids.

People at work asked me to work again today, and I got a shift call-out for tomorrow.. but I told one colleague this morning, I'm busy today and tomorrow with appointments. Which is true.. The workshops I attended today, and the "appointment" of meeting my Aunt for lunch.. Then, tomorrow, I've got a dentist appointment, and I could attend more workshops. Knowing that people at work can accommodate to my absence, along with the other lady that had a fire in her area, I'm not sweating it too much to agree to work the hours. I was asked by one colleague this morning if I could just pop in for 4 hours.. but the thing is, to me.. it's not worth it to work just 4 hours. Since I pay for parking for every shift, it's $4 for 14hrs, if I just work for 4 hours and not the full 8-hour shift, that's like paying $1/hour. I know it's not much money, but it just doesn't seem worth it.

Plus, right now, I'd rather focus on making progress in relaunching my business than to pick up extra shifts aside from what has already been pre-booked for me. My brother paid a lot of money to upgrade our program, and I'll need to use all the available resources to my advantage as it's offered with this upgraded version.

I was watching a new drama in bed last night.. I cried so much.. it's been a while since I cried this much watching a drama.. but I always feel relieved after a good cry, even if it's caused by watching something sad. I knew it was going to be a sad storyline, I chose to watch it in support of male lead. The storyline is like a remake of a very old Japanese short drama series I watched more than a decade ago. I've got a few more episodes left, probably will finish it tonight. I have to wake up early next morning for the first workshop for 7:30am.
