Learning that you have OCD

reliablePark8851 September 6th

Hey you all I am new here! 23 Yr old just learned I have OCD on top of a Bipolar Depression Disorder and Mixed Anxiety/adjustment disorder. Has anyone else been in a space where it’s just a lot at once to learn about yourself? lol happy to have found a community where I can express myself and not be scared of judgement. Thank you for reading

Getting a diagnosis or diagnoses can definetely feel overwhelming and a lot to process. If any of your diagnoses don't sit quote right with you, I would encourage you to seek a second opinion. I have had multiple incorrect diagnoses from Psychiatrists. And honestly, they can be overrated. I've also seen them give others diagnoses that made no sense whatsoever with their actual symptoms and behaviour. If you do feel that the diagnosis could well be correct for you, I'd encourage you to remember that you are not your diagnosis. And just because someone has a diagnosis doesn’t mean that they have exactly the same condition has someone else. You are unique and how a condition affects an individual is also unique. I've received incorrect diagnoses before and it really shook me up and made ne doubt and question myself and my life. But I continued to believe it was incorrect and was reassured by 1. My own in-depth research of the diagnosed condition, 2. The knowledge I had about my own symptoms and 3. Getting a second opinion - where 2 Psychologists and 2 Psychiatrists said something completely different. I hope that might be of some encouragement to you 👍

Yes, I obsessed over my diagnosis nonstop for months straight.

I hear you on that. But these people can have quieter a limited perspective sometimes and can be very lazy in their diagnoses. I'd always seek a second opinion. And also clarify to what degree they think you have that particular diagnosis and a breakdown of what symptoms you have that would inform their decision. If they can't offer that, I would be very skeptical as their diagnosis. I've had licenses psychiatrists give me the wrong one, based on limited information. They only do harm in that case.
