[OLD THREAD] Project Achieve Your Goals - 18+

Laura December 2nd, 2015

Setting goals is the easy part...reaching them can be more challenging!

Having someone support you in reaching your personal goals can be incredibly helpful. Today, wed like to announce a new community program aimed at helping you reach your goals.

Well need both listeners & members to make this happen! Here is how you can get involved in this project:

Members:

Step 1: Post a goal youd like to work towards in this thread. Be specific! Goals work great when you can make them measurable. Usually that involves a time period and a number of times. Additionally, you want to start by making goals achievable. Do not make your goals too hard or you will grow frustrated and not be able to reach them. Much better to make them easy to accomplish to build your confidence right from the start.

examples:

I want to cook dinner for myself 3 nights per week

I want to go to the gym 1 time per week

Take 3 growth path steps every day

Step 2: Specify if you'd like a listener to check in on you 1 or 2x/week.

Step 3: Wait for a listener to reply to you! They will reply and let you know they will support you reach this goal.

Step 4: PM this listener to get going! They will not be able to support you by checking in on you if you do not first PM them. If you find that a listener has not followed up, then please post again and request another listener.

Step 5: Post your progress each week in this thread and also on your feed so more people can support you in achieving your goals.

Step 6: Once you have achieved your goal and the new behavior or habit has been consistent for 21 days, then apply for the Goal 1 Badge. We'll likely have several goals, so there will be Goal 2, Goal 3 etc. (Feel free to help us come up with better names!)

Listeners:

Step 1: Wait for members to share their goals in this thread! When you see a goal/member youd like to support, reply to their forum post and let them know!

Step 2: Once this member has messaged you and established connection over PM, its your job to better understand the members goal, why its important and what you can do to best support them.

Step 3: Make a commitment! Check-in with this member twice per week and enquire about the goal!

Step 4: Let us know how you and your member are doing! In this thread, we will track your progress as team. Post here to let us know how it's going!

Step 5: After your member has reached their goal, let us know and apply for the Coach badge. More details on this soon!

I don't know if listeners are still checking this thread, but I will give it a shot ^^;

I'm really struggling with studying and self-sabotage tendencies and I figured out an additional external support may help me to overcome these problems in the New Year. I have one term to finish my MA thesis, so stakes are pretty high for me and currently I'm loosing spectacularly the battle, trying also to recover from the depressive episode.

I want to start slow, with doing 1 hour of deep work 5 times a week, but maybe at the beginning I'll have to be more flexible and less critical towards myself, we'll see. I think if I had someone to check upon me twice a week that would be great. If you can manage 3 times, that would be fantastic, but it's not necessary ^^

I'm not a clingy type of person, but often anxious when the deadlines are catching up with me (which means pretty regularly due to my procrastination). I'm in the +2 GMT zone, but I believe we can make it work even if you're on the different continent ^^ Any help will be appreciated. Best wishes!

best of luck with your thesis:)

@Eunoia, thank you for the support, I really appreciated it. Right now I'm trying to get around the schedule to set up a fixed time for my studying, while traveling quite a bit. I hope to contact you soon, though. Thank you once again and wish you all the best!

@Celaeno I hope you are doing well and striving towards your goals!

I think it is awesome you not only identified what was an obstacle for you inside, but came up with a straightforward plan to tackle it! That definitely is an inspiring challenge to me.

As you go along, just stick with it! Remember, you may stumble here or there, but don't make that all or nothing! Get back up, dust off, and keep going with the great plan you've laid out for yourself... get that MA! :)

I have a goal of setting up a personal directive and a supportive decision making authorization.

I currently don't have a specific timeline, I need to sort out a few things such as appointments and things but will be open to discussing all of this with a supporter!

Hello,

My most important goal for this year is to work on my career change. I have applied for a field of work I am passionate about.

I need to prepare by brushing up my knowledge on the subject to be able to face exams / interviews.

I am currently aiming to do at least 1 hour study each day.

I would be grateful if a listener could check on me twice a week.

thanks.

A few years back, I was dangerously overweight and out of shape, to the point it was causing serious health problems.

A change in jobs had the side-effect of helping me lose some weight. That gave me the motivation to actively do other things to continue on that path.

I did really well for quite a number of months, so much to the point that I was able to do a lot of physical activity, get new clothes, and start to feel good about myself physically.

But, my depression kicked in, which in addition to draining away my energy, focus, and motivation, tends to make me feel 'all-or-nothing' about goals and setbacks. So, I have backslid quite a bit for the past few months.

I don't want my depression to dictate to me whether I can do something, whether I can set goals and achieve them, and whether or not I fight to make myself better.

So, I am back to exercising. And, I am trying to focus on small, achievable steps, one after the other (instead of worrying about too much of the big picture and whether or not I look like a Greek god yet, ha ha ha).

Examples:

Do two exercises before and after participating in a Group Chat.
Start using my step counter again.

I feel by stating this, setting it out there, there is some accountability - like, I said I am going to do this, so, dangit, I need to do this.

It has been such a battle, but I am still in it and I have not surrendered yet!

buttonedprincess January 8th, 2016

@loupdereves hello! I'm so very proud of you to have not surrendered yet - and i'm very happy that you've broached the topic of exercising and you have a plan ready! please feel free to PM me if you would like me to be your accountability partner!

my goal is also to exercise regularly, at least 3 times a week and be more active in my daily life too - to improve my health! i would love to be your accountability partner on this and support you through your goals! heart i hope to hear from you soon!

loupdereves January 8th, 2016

@buttonedprincess Oh, gosh, thank you, thank you, thank you! That is such a wonderful offer... and I will take you up on it!

It's weird, because I know the exercise is good for me, does things for me that I want it to do... but somehow just doing it for myself doesn't give me that spark of motivation I sometimes really need.

But, knowing I am accountable to someone else, somehow that just really helps.

(Kind of like, I will clean my apartment because I want guests and company to feel comfortable, but not always because it is good for me, too, ha ha)

I was a little patient in supporting my sick friend/coach who has agrophobia. I recognised that he needed friendship / support while he was feeling disoriented / dizzy.

I felt like a friend, not just a client.

I'm hoping to be able to read a book every week and meditate every day in 2016!

Hi @Espejo - sounds like a worthy goal. Reading is mind opening and and meditation is soothing and deepening. I like both of these and would be happy to help you reach your goal.
