[OLD THREAD] Project Achieve Your Goals - 18+
Setting goals is the easy part...reaching them can be more challenging!
Having someone support you in reaching your personal goals can be incredibly helpful. Today, wed like to announce a new community program aimed at helping you reach your goals.
Well need both listeners & members to make this happen! Here is how you can get involved in this project:
Members:
Step 1: Post a goal youd like to work towards in this thread. Be specific! Goals work great when you can make them measurable. Usually that involves a time period and a number of times. Additionally, you want to start by making goals achievable. Do not make your goals too hard or you will grow frustrated and not be able to reach them. Much better to make them easy to accomplish to build your confidence right from the start.
examples:
I want to cook dinner for myself 3 nights per week
I want to go to the gym 1 time per week
Take 3 growth path steps every day
Step 2: Specify if you'd like a listener to check in on you 1 or 2x/week.
Step 3: Wait for a listener to reply to you! They will reply and let you know they will support you reach this goal.
Step 4: PM this listener to get going! They will not be able to support you by checking in on you if you do not first PM them. If you find that a listener has not followed up, then please post again and request another listener.
Step 5: Post your progress each week in this thread and also on your feed so more people can support you in achieving your goals.
Step 6: Once you have achieved your goal and the new behavior or habit has been consistent for 21 days, then apply for the Goal 1 Badge. We'll likely have several goals, so there will be Goal 2, Goal 3 etc. (Feel free to help us come up with better names!)
Listeners:
Step 1: Wait for members to share their goals in this thread! When you see a goal/member youd like to support, reply to their forum post and let them know!
Step 2: Once this member has messaged you and established connection over PM, its your job to better understand the members goal, why its important and what you can do to best support them.
Step 3: Make a commitment! Check-in with this member twice per week and enquire about the goal!
Step 4: Let us know how you and your member are doing! In this thread, we will track your progress as team. Post here to let us know how it's going!
Step 5: After your member has reached their goal, let us know and apply for the Coach badge. More details on this soon!
I would like to get back to running long distance, 10k and half-marathon races. I plan to start with morning walks/jogs and then gradually extend them to cover about 5-10 km, 3-4 days a week, alternating between running and cycling ( or another activity that can exercise a diff. set of muscles ). Right now, I am down with some medical issues but they are clearing fast and I will be back at 100% in a few days. I want someone to keep goading me as my natural tendency is to be a laid back goof. Thanks.
Hi @meaculpa - I train in yoga with some runners who say yoga helps restore the natural balance that running sets out of balance. I am mainly involved in restorative exercise but would be willing to help you meet your goal.
@soulsings
First off thanks for replying.
I have some idea about yoga, but knee bending stuff is a bit tough for me, as I have past knee injuries that tend to flare up. Beyond that, am amenable to yoga as I believe it offers me the opportunity to exercise different sets of muscles and will add to my sprint capability.
@meaculpa Talk to your medical advisor before doing any exercises that might rekindle old injuries. Practicing yoga with a certified, trained instructor might be better in your case so you can tell them about your old injuries and they can help you modify your poses to prevent injury.
Yoga does tend to strengthen body and make it more resilient over time as long as you do not reinjure the body. Yes consult with your medical person first.
@soulsings
Will do. Am on it.
Hello. I have a few goals I want to work on because I have been talking about making changes for years but end up getting discouraged and giving up. My first goal is to stick to things even if its hard or tough. I want to work on losing weight and driving. I have had a huge fear of driving and I want to experience the freedom of driving myself places. I also want to try to be more social and make more friends. These goals will be hard for me to achieve but I can do it.
@coffeecat1 I would love to help you achieve your goals :)
Thank you so much for replying :) I think it will definitely keep me on track if I have someone to check in with on my goals. I will message you!
@coffeecat1
Hi there, i guess i can relate to your struggles to achieve goals too. I have also been trying to change a lot of my negative habits to positive ones, but it has always been a struggle for me to stick to it especially when facing obstacles in life.
I also need to build back my courage to drive again because i have been ill for quite a few years now. It has certainly shaken my confidence in facing life again.
I am new here, but I would really like some support to achieve my goals.
1. I would like to lose some weight. I weigh 194 right now, would like to get down to 150.
2. I would like to quit smoking. I've been smoking for around 8 years. SI smoke between 5-10 cigarettes per day depending on my stress level.
3. I want to learn to have some confidence in myself and let go of the past. I have so many regrets that are preventing me from moving on. Perhaps this is the reason behind my smoking and over eating.
My goal is that the upcoming job interview on December 30th will be good, that means I have to manage it in a good way.
Hi @courteousSouth6438 glad you have a job interview. There are many things you can do to prepare yourself. Just a few are review the job opening and prepare statements about your job experience that prepare you to be an ideal candidate for the position.
You can also improve your chances by studying their website and trade journals that talk about new developments within that company. Having intelligent questions based on this information will show you do your homework.
You can also have a friend do mock interviews so you are ready and comfortable. Being dressed appropriately is important too.
Want to chat more about it send me a message
@soulsings I have a job interview as a gardener, in my last job interview they asked my botanical names of plants and I didn

Hi @itsnina101 - sounds like a great goal. The more I did down inside the more I find. Maybe it might take a while to discover all the treasures inside of you.
Want to chat more about it send me a message

@dishathebest and itsnina, that is an awesome goal. Acknowledging Self care n self love for oneself is like accepting and respecting yourself.
@faithlove1111 Thank you so much and you are awesome :)
I wanna take chances, especially when it comes to my love life.
@ivoryField1014 I am willing to help support you in achieving your goal! Just send me a PM.
Heyo! My goals are to:
Wake up at atleast 9am everyday
Apply for atleast 5 jobs a day (until I get hired)
Read for atleast 15 minutes a day
Listen to an audiobook for atleast 30 minutes a day
Meditate for 10 minutes a day
These goals may seem simple but i am a professional procrastinator, due to my self esteem which i am trying to build up. Having a listener would be awesome and very helpful, checking in once a week :) Thanks!
Hey @navyWriter2553 ! I'd love to help you with your goals! Send me a PM if you'd like to chat. :)
@holly29 Awesome, thank you! i definitely will :)
@navyWriter2553
Hi there, i can relate to your goal of walking up at 9am. Currently i'm not working and i would also need to get a job soon.
Just to share about my own experience of waking up early in the morning. Yeah at 1st i had the bad habit of waking up late. But soon i realize that waking up early actually makes me feel good and its a healthy habit too.
And since my health is improving i got back my appetite and my simple motivation to wake early is eat a good breakfast
Howdy! Just a couple of goals I came up with. If anyone has any advice and wants to help, that would be great. Speaking to men can make me uncomfortable, but I'm working on it. Women I have no problem with. I need time to trust someone so it wouldn't just be one meeting which is a lot to ask in this day and age.
I'd like to be able to learn how to make my own choices and not worry about the opinions of others so much.
Would like to work up the courage to go to therapy so that I could learn how to control my emotions, stop blocking people out, and form closer relationships. The majority of time I've had people who will run for the hills even after saying they enjoy my company.
Exercise at least twice a week for 30 minutes.
Quit my job which causes nothing but worry and shame for me.
Having things feel less generic and fake.
@NorthDUKEStar Hi star! I'm so glad you came here to ask for support with your goals, its a fantastic start :D . I'll do my best to help you if you'd like :)
Am I allowed to be specific, as in I weigh 60 kilos now, bust size is 48, waist ....etc....and then set weight and exercise goals like this:
1 kilo this week and 7 hours of exercise?
@braveKitten4951
yes, you can :)
I want to overcome my inferiority complex. You know the complex of always thinking that you are inferior than the other. It bugs me that no matter what I have achieved, I can't seem to feel that maybe I'm as good as the other no matter what people around me have said and also have encourage
@OptimisticBirch I am willing to help you with this. I have had a history of Inferiority complex myself, so rest assured I am experienced. Other than that, I genuinely want to help you. SO PM me, if you think I am able.
@OptimisticBirch Hey! I would love to go on this journey with you and help you achieve your goal :)
