how do i want things
all my life i’ve been generally okay with everything others are okay with and more. i’ve never wanted something to disagree with someone or to venture out on my own to acquire it. or to deal with the stress of being bad at something in order to practice and get good at it. i love art. but i’ve never wanted to be good at it. i just lament about how i never got to study it but i’ve never put in efforts from my side to learn with all the free resources available online. why do i not try. i want to. i sit here and think about all the ways i could be good at something. and that’s all. i just think. why is it so hard, near impossible, for me to want something and keep at it? why do i quit everything i start?
Hi @calmTree3152 it’s nice of you to share your thoughts as I can relate to you when it comes to thinking about trying something new or changing ourselves. As a matter of fact, I actually want to learn to draw myself and am slow to getting myself to try.
First off, it’s normal to be hesitant and afraid of doing something different. We just gotta get in the right mindset to move forward - I eventually do that by examining what’s holding me back and by figuring out what exact first steps to take that I feel comfortable doing with whatever amount of time I have in my schedule. And if ya still don’t come up with a good reason to not pursue your goal, then just do it :)
If ya still struggle to get going with what you consider to be important, I’d be good to reach out to someone who can either address your particular concerns or provide advice and/or perhaps find a person who shares the same goal as you so you won’t feel alone trying and can be held accountable too.
sorry for responding so late! but this is genuinely good advice! i tend to just distract myself from everything so it’ll be good to sit with the reasons why i do not pursue my interests and what exactly is holding me back and how i can overcome it. and i fully agree with staying in touch with someone who shares the same goal. accountability is one of the biggest motivational factors for me. thanks for the advice and i hope you are successful in your own art ventures too! here’s to finding new hobbies and interests.
