Thoughts on motivation?

Hi everyone! There is a whole self-help industry surrounding motivation, you can look up ideas on finding motivation on practically any human task there is. There are books, videos, articles, and what not.

However, there are also people who believe motivation is overrated.

What are your thoughts on trying to motivate yourself to get things done?

@Hope

I think seeking motivation to do things is a great idea. Motivation is everything one wants to make of it, it is hidden in your "why to do", it complements your "how and what to do to reach closer to your 'why'", motivation is everywhere if we want to see it, and nowhere if we don't want to, because then we'll find excuses *sigh*.

I consider intrinsic motivation to be the highest form of motivation for me, personally, it's what I have a direct control on and it's about what matters to me more!

This was nice to reflect on, thank you, Hope. What are your thoughts about the same?^^

I have an app on my phone that sends me an alert with a daily motivation each day at a certain time. While the quotes are good and can motivate, personally, I need to be in the mood to be motivated or in a "neutral" mood, if that makes sense. Some days my mental and emotional state of mind see the daily motivational quote and I'm like "yea, no...not today...." On really bad days, the quotes just make me angry....but on a normal day, they are thought provoking and provide me something.....

@Hope I believe that having motivation is a good thing because you can get things done. I often lack motivation so a lot of the times I struggle to get things done on time. I sometimes procrastinate when I should be doing work. I try my best to motivate myself and stop procrastination using tips I find online. Sometimes they can certainly help me get my motivation back when I'm struggling.

Motivation is not a fixed trait that we either have or don’t have. It is a dynamic state that can be influenced by many factors, such as our interests, values, beliefs, emotions, expectations, feedback, rewards, and environment.

I motivate myself by reminding myself of my purpose and values, which are to provide useful and engaging information to all my students. I also motivate myself by doing things that makes me happy.

As a Math teacher I believe life is like sine cosine curve there will always be ups and down, but we should keep moving as they are which will make your life as important as those curves are in trigonometry. 😇😊

Hi Hope, and other members too.

Motivation came to mind today and my thoughts about it are like this; when hope and encoragement are strong, motivation is strong. When failure, discouragement and self doubt is strong, motivation is weak. We need perseverance, diligence and persistence to remove self doubt and these things will refuel the motivation tank.

Motivation starts our engines, perseverance keeps us going until we run out of gas and then hope refuels our motivation until our momentum keeps us going for a while.

Motivation nor non-motivatian are things of permanenance.... Go with the flow and use motivation as a spring board to persistence and diligence.

I want to add, along with my post above, that for me, motivation means something different for different things....There is motivation as to why I stay in a career that I began to dislike many years ago....then there is the motivation that gets me through my chores and daily routine/activities....and then there is the motivation that I look for when exercising/working out....with some of the things, motivation is good, but dedication, consistency and a sense of purpose toward an end goal is better than motivation.....
