The Mindful Balcony
I live in a very industrialised area so have made a micro nature reserve on my balcony, though it's still very much a work in progress. I spend some mindful time out there every day. I'd like to share the peace & delight I enjoy there with you. It's my place of refuge from a troubled world & the stresses & burdens of life.
When two or more ladybirds are gathered together, it's called "a loveliness of ladybirds" (ladybugs).

My balcony faces west and I sit out there most evenings sipping a hot chocolate and watching the sun set and the brighter stars come out. This was taken a couple of weeks ago when the Northern Lights were visible over much of the UK. A solitary bat fluttered about and moths flitted around the street lamp nearby. And I forgot to take the clothesline down...duh!

@Tinywhisper11 For most of the time the Lights were mostly invisible to the naked eye, only using a mobile phone/digital camera. Humans can't see colours very well in low light levels.

@cal1860 that’s true we are in a troubled world I have a troubled life I don’t have my mom I’m fighting with my best fitness she blamed me for committing self harm to herself suicide she’s still mean to me asking me for money constantly she’s done a lot of things wrong she drains me scares me she doesn’t care about my health safety I walk out at night in the dark a lot can happen to me that’s dangerous she’s deceiving mean other things to me it’s not okay
@dhabib I'm so sorry you're having such a troublesome time. It's so important to have a place of respite, even if it can only be inside ourselves or in cyberspace. I hope things improve for you.
@cal1860 it’s hard its improving I got to bed early i am out going out for 1-3 hours during the day the best is the sunset in my state walking during the early evening for me to release pain stress anixety just breathe I got my dog
@cal1860 my own self having trouble is never a good feeling never is I faced pain October 2024 December it’s my dental appt it needed to be done

@Tinywhisper11 I don't know what type it is, possibly a Harlequin ladybird. They're not a native species but still beautiful. We get a lot of yellow ones here. No, I don't talk to my plants or give them names, I do, however, regularly have a long whistling conversation with a blackbird or two around dawn...🤫

I can't help but pass this on---today is the anniversary of my uncle's suicide. It was such a tragedy in my mom's family. One year while staring through my window wondering if I should call her on this day, I noticed a ladybug on the windowsill and was in awe. There's no reason for one to be there as it's the middle of winter here and I'd never seen one inside before. I took it as a sign that it was my uncle letting me know he was still with us. Today I silently wondered if I would see a ladybug somehow, which is crazy considering how cold it is. But opening my computer and seeing this photo at the top of my feed was jarring but so sweet to see! Glad it somehow made its way to me... I didn't see one in real life but seeing a virtual ladybug had the same effect. Feels like it was meant to be💖
