Hello LDP Team!

I am enjoying this program and I hope that you all are finding it helpful and meaningful! I'm excited about this next course. The problem is the path is the core insight that helps us evolve as individuals and as a community here on 7 Cups.

Here is an overview of this course:

Course Description: It is natural for us to want to avoid problems. Problems can cause worry, anxiety, and frustration. These are feelings that we often want to avoid. Problems, however, are the key to growth. When we face our problems directly we get smarter and grow stronger. A saying that captures this is: Progress = Pain + Reflection. This course helps you learn the value of problems by highlighting the difference between problems you might be concerned about and problems you can directly solve. Next, it walks you through the ancient practice of steering into problems directly in order to unlock their value and gifts. Finally, it helps you identify and measure progress so you can make continued gains in your personal and professional life.

1. Identify 3 things in your circle of concern, 3 things in your circle of influence, and 1 thing you can do to remind yourself to focus on your circle of influence.

3 things in my circle of concern are: covid-19, the actions of other people, and climate change. 3 things in my circle of influence are: wearing a mask whenever I'm outside, being kind to everyone I meet, and taking a shorter shower to conserve water. I can remind myself by choosing to think of how I can augment the way I work to better match the working styles of the people around me.

2. Next, watch the following video and highlight what stands out to you about this executive? What did they do that would be considered proactive as opposed to reactive?

This executive did not demand that his boss change, or angrily wait for his boss to change. It was remarkable because that is how most people react towards a leader's flaws. As we all have flaws, this usually means we end up complaining and getting frustrated without actually doing anything to help the situation, while we could be working to complement this leader by minimizing the impact of their flaws, or working to counteract them, which is exactly what this executive did.

This executive changed his own working style instead of expecting others to change, and he matched his leader and team's working styles. He listened for feedback, and actively anticipated his superior's needs, making sure he worked with his superior as well as possible. He did his part of the job exceedingly well, and did not at any point try to convince anyone to accommodate him or to improve, focusing only on his circle of influence

1. Watch the following video and identify 3 things in your circle of concern, 3 things in your circle of influence, and 1 thing you can do to remind yourself to focus on your circle of influence.

Circle of concern: 1. Family and friends 2. Finances 3. Others well-being

Circle of influence: 1. Goals 2. Education 3. Caring for others

How I can remind myself to focus on my circle of influence: I cannot control everything, but I am in control of my life and my choices, I cannot help everyone and make everyone happy, I am doing my best at everything I do.

2. Next, watch the following video and highlight what stands out to you about this executive? What did they do that would be considered proactive as opposed to reactive?

The mans intiative to to focus on his own circle, is how everyone should be. By focusing on his own circle and doing his own thing, it ultimately caused his circle of influence to expand. He was inclusive and made weaknesses of others and himself irrelevant. He took initiative to make positive changes. He was proactive as situations didn’t define him or get him stuck, but rather he read situations with empathy and analyzed everything from a different perspective. He was not dependent on any circumstance, and gave recommendations through analyzing the situations.

1. Watch the following video and identify 3 things in your circle of concern, 3 things in your circle of influence, and 1 thing you can do to remind yourself to focus on your circle of influence.

§ 3 things in your circle of concern (things I have no control over)

Being out of work (I`m working as a Music Events Manager, so am not able to do what I want due to the current situation), what others feel and think about me and other`s opinions on my own beliefs and choices.

§ 3 things in your circle of influence (things I have control over)

My friends and business partners, my motivation into self-growth and personal development and my reactions to others` opinions!

§ 1 thing you can do to remind yourself to focus on your circle of influence

Be PROACTIVE: By realizing my decisions control my life instead of my conditions, I can focus and shift my attention from uncontrollable situations to improving each thing I can control!

2.

Next, watch the following video and highlight what stands out to you about this executive?

Firstly, he realised how important guiding your life taking into consideration the circle of influence is. By doing so, he achieved to reach a higher level of effectiveness. By keeping himself empathetic rather than judgmental, he has been able to depict his boss` influence, vision and strength, and work with all the positives in order to implement development and improvement.

What did they do that would be considered proactive as opposed to reactive?

They understood that they have no control over the boss` attitude nor vision. Therefore they have shifted their attention into empathizing, understanding his boss` needs and coming up with an efficient plan, which would serve as a common ground for all the employees as well as for the boss.

@GlenM Thank you for this amazing topic and valuable info.

Watch the following video and identify 3 things in your circle of concern, 3 things in your circle of influence, and 1 thing you can do to remind yourself to focus on your circle of influence.

* Three things in my circle of concern:

1. My family’s health including me.

2. My income vs my expenses and needs.

3. My country's political and economical state.

* Three Things in my circle of influence:

1. My self-care and healthy habits.

2. My success at work.

3. Finding my soulmate.

* One thing I can do to focus on my circle of influence: The best way to feel like you’re in control over your circle of influence, is to focus on what you can control (Circle of Control). Keep your circle small, focus on being more effective, get stuff done. Working within your circle of control expands it, leading to feelings of accomplishment and eventually controlling your circle of influence.

Next, watch the following video and highlight what stands out to you about this executive? What did they do that would be considered proactive as opposed to reactive?

1. What stands out to you about this executive: The executive focused on his inner circle of influence. He was proactive and patient. He anticipated the needs and concerns of his president. Instead of criticizing, he focused on empathizing and complementing the strength of the president through his strength.

2. What they do would be considered proactive as opposed to reactive: The executive was proactive because he used to anticipate the needs and concerns of the president. While presenting information to the president, he used to provide his own analysis and recommendation based on that analysis.

Circle of Concern:
1. The overall state of the country.
2. The state of nature
3. The state of Animals around me
One thing I always do to remind myself to focus on my circle of influence:
I always try to articulate the small steps I can take towards working on the points I mentioned in Circle of Concern. I try to remind myself that only if I take good decisions today, that only I flourish well I would be capable enough to contribute towards the world.

2. Next, watch the following video and highlight what stands out to you about this executive? What did they do that would be considered proactive as opposed to reactive?
Rather than having ill talks about the manager with other people and let things play out the way there were, he took a proactive approach in understanding the situation, working on it, working on engaging everyone into the work. This proactive approach of his worked well in bringing a sense of teamwork.

1. Identify 3 things in your circle of concern, 3 things in your circle of influence, and 1 thing you can do to remind yourself to focus on your circle of influence.

My circle of concern - My Health, My Family, friends, and Career.

My circle of influence - How people I know impact my mood, Focus on taking care of myself.

Remind myself - That I can control some things but others I cannot, Get away from any negativity among relationships.

2. Highlight what stands out to you about this executive? What did they do that would be considered proactive as opposed to reactive?

The executive did not complain about their situation – instead, they focused on what they can do, and what they can control. They understood and empathized with the president, and they compensated for the president’s weaknesses with their own efforts. This proactive behavior led them to become highly trusted and well respected.

* current weight, mental health, future obligations

*I can exercise, I can analyse where my well-being is affected, I know what preparations need to be worked on

*To remind myself, I must introspect and speak to myself every morning and at night as a way to consolidate and prepare my mindset.

Watch the following video and identify 3 things in your circle of concern, 3 things in your circle of influence, and 1 thing you can do to remind yourself to focus on your circle of influence.

Three things in my circle of influence are my physical health, working on my mental health, and who I let into my circle of friends.

Three things that are in my circle of concern are the negative actions of others toward others, the past, and government decisions.

One thing I can do to remind myself to stay focused on my circle of influence is to ask myself, if I have control over it is there anything at this moment, I can do to change it. If the answer is no, I need to focus one what I CAN change and have control over.

Next, watch the following video and highlight what stands out to you about this executive? What did they do that would be considered proactive as opposed to reactive?

This video stood out to me as we are going through something similar at my job. It really hit home about the executive listening, being empathetic, and not being reactive by being upset with his supervisor and pointing out his wrong doings. He was reactive by looking at what he could do to improve the situation, not what other could do to improve. Because he focused on what he could influence, he was able to influence others for the better.
