Maybe 'Musings 7', maybe not

follow up from https://www.7cups.com/forum/journal/DiaryEntries_1597/Musings6_306816/

`_` 'u' When I think about it, I find it kind of neat how one of my higher ups has a voice vaguely reminiscent of 'young adult and up' Gohan

"Children cry when things are sad; adults - especially as they get older and their suffering deeper - may start to cry with special intensity when things are lovely; that is, at the contrast between how they long for things to be and how they actually are. In beautiful scenes in films, we may glimpse a tenderness, a forgiveness and a generosity we crave but too often can't access any more in day to day life. What's making us cry is the gap between our longings and what we know are the available realities. We're crying because sweetness and hope are evoking the extent of all the pain we've had to bravely bear and suppress for too long."

<-- the part which unfortunately was so small it got blurry

Someone trying to tear off or displace religiously based garb

" " take away or damage glasses

" " doing the stupid eye pulling gesture (even if it's not even being directed at someone whose East Asian)

" " mockingly imitating someone's voice

Being call the homophobic f word

Being called the n word and ibid for the other derogatory ethnic identity based fighting words

Weight stigma based phrases

Circumstances in which, when it comes to possible reasons for brawls between prepubescents I'd sympathize with a possibly harassed one evoking the attempt at choicelessness and making unambiguous messages with violence.

`_` '_' D--n I gotta stop myself listing off or else I'll get carried away.

'Don't look back in anger' by Oasis is for me an example of a song with a title which sounds compelling even though the actual song is 'meh'.

Definitely appreciate doctor reaction videos to injuries in TV shows, movies, video games etc as to ground the power fantasy and revealing the de facto frailties and s--kage of having such stuff actually happen.

Before I forget and have to think to catch myself again on it..'weather', father', 'mother'..that 'th' combination is something I'm slowly trying to grow myself out of pronouncing with a 't' ('wet-ter' instead of 'weh-ver' for ex.) or 'd' sound ('fawdder' instead 'fov-er' for ex) for the expected 'soft v' sound.

Finding this comment from 3 months ago among the richness of the other ones on scene (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFePI3EQCAo ) regarding the Gmork and Atreyu scene from ‘The never-ending story’:

LamanKnight2

"

I'm reading the book [by Michael Ende] for the first time, and thus far I've passed the part where the movie ends. So, I have read about this part. It plays out somewhat differently in the book, but both versions of this scene teach a chilling truth:

- In the book, Gmork tells Atreyu that as a werewolf, he is able to cross between worlds, so he has seen the human world for himself, and he has seen how it works. Gmork explains to Atreyu that all residents of Fantastica who are swallowed by the Nothing (or who jump into it willingly) will continue to exist in the human world, but not in the same form that they had in Fantastica. According to Gmork, the former creatures of Fantastica turn into lies. For instance, spooks (monsters like vampires, witches, and ghosts) turn into lies of fear, and their presence causes humans to feel afraid of things that aren't real. Other people of Fantastica turn into lies and illusions that cause humans to believe harmful things about themselves, about others, and about the world in general. In the book version of the story, Gmork is teaching that humans will always imagine. But if we lose the ability to imagine deliberately, to engage in fantasy or dreams, then instead we will imagine involuntarily. And since using our imaginations won't be a deliberate choice, we won't acknowledge what is imaginary, as opposed to what is real. Thus, we will come to believe that ALL of what we think is real. And that's dangerous. The difference between a lie and a fantasy is that a lie is believed to be real, while a fantasy is known to be unreal, even if it is valuable. A world that suppresses fantasy becomes a world of lies. - In the movie, Gmork tells Atreyu that people who have no hopes or dreams are easy to control. He's all too right. A person who wants nothing, or who believes it is impossible to get what he wants, has no reason to fight for himself. And if one choice is just as miserable as another, he will have no reason to care if someone else imposes their own choices on him. This lack of hope won't completely eliminate the freedom of choice, but it does make you less likely to use it well. I've sometimes said that the ability to hope and the ability to imagine come from the same place, and that this is one of the reasons that a lot of adults become so much more miserable when they progress from childhood to adulthood. If they believe that imagination is childish, and they stop using their imaginations, then they stop practicing the ability to "see things not as they are, but as they may become." Envisioning and temporarily believing in things that aren't real, just because you enjoy it, is called fantasizing. But envisioning and believing in things that aren't real yet, because you want to make that vision come to pass in reality, is called hoping. So, Gmork is correct on this, too. People who don't try to imagine are unlikely to hope for a better world. Thus, they won't work towards a better world, or do things of their own initiative. People like this are easy to manipulate, and easy to control this way. OK. Enough with the bleakness. If you learn one thing from both versions of Gmork, I hope that it's this: Don't give up your imagination. Don't tell yourself that it is childish or silly to think of things that aren't real, or that creativity is ever a waste of time or effort. Your ability to imagine actually strengthens your ability to recognize real truth when you see it; and your ability to imagine is directly linked to your ability to hope. You'll become the best version of yourself if you nurture your desires to imagine and create. Yeah. (Well, Gmork, stay in your chains if you must; I will always fight against your masters who sent you.) ***** EDIT: I'm surprised to see that I've been getting replies to this comment. Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Over time, I may not be able to respond to everyone, and I might not even get notified about replies in the future. Also, if I don't feel like I have a meaningful reply, I may just give your comments a Like. But whether I say anything in response or not, thank you for your consideration."

Tie in to an older entry about how I feel about video games

The 6th console gen (the PS2, Xbox and Gamecube era..although according to wikipedia you can even shoe in the Sega Dreamcast, making for a ~'98-'05/'the 360's release' timeline) is notable for how a fair amount of 'the blockiness'^1 of earlier polygon based game graphics was meaningfully diminishing ever more afterwards* enough to make for more worthwhile cutscenes..note how skepticism which came with the complaints of this being tiring happened after MGS4..

`_` Ironic how as much as I definitely appreciate that development in video games in the post-pixel sprite years^2 even with that high-tier element of immersiveness this is where my interest in games dips and when it comes to the post-'07 scene, I'd sooner prefer to some pixel based or 'not too polygon based' indie PC game than most the high production console games which came after, short of my admiration for adventure and JRPG games which goodness knows if you're not going for the 'HD-2D'^3 appeal of something like 'Octopath traveller' (https://youtu.be/Z5nHyjDuCBU) , I'd much sooner prefer a 'demake' (https://youtu.be/7L-rDDGpYs0) of:

like I said more pixelated https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faUWnSo8f08 > than polygon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KTvjRe5vyA

^1 even if in hindsight, shoulder to shoulder w/today's consoles (sans the 'Switch' somewhat since goodness knows how Nintendo's m.o. is at least superficially less intense) the graphics are relatively 'under baked'

^2 'in parrallel' I'm reminded of how the 'FF7:Advent children' movie came out in '05 and my hype enough to get a (Blockbuster ?..or was the 'Jumbo' franchise ?) membership to rent

^3 `_` D--n the 'cuteness' of 'HD-2D' gets to me. Games 'could've gone up that route' during the 5th gen struggles with blockiness and it would've made 'Paper Mario' less unique but I definitely understand and grew up seeing how we craved to see our games become more cinematic even if we're essentially stagnated and tired of it by now short of the more changes (like 'light ray tracing') becoming too complicated and subtle for most ppl to pick out on, on ever more expensive hardware.

Something that could consistently support 'HD-2D' is ever consistently is a minimum 'PS2' power, eh ?..@~@ >_< *sigh* how stupid expensive a PC equivalent with the RAM and memory to spare would be, doesn't appeal to me

I know a place where salsa lessons are done.

Even though I cringe at the mediocrity of salsa music esp. when placed next to the smoothness of bachata or the high octane energy of merengue, what propels my initiative is having read that bachata is similar albeit with (slower and) wider steps.
