Deer in Headlights
Tw: mentions of trauma responses, society, deep thoughts, discussion and questions
Hello everyone, my name is InsightfulPhoenix and I would like to discuss Deer in Headlights. When seeing the topic you immediately thought of the trauma response "Fawn", right? What I told you this what about the way you stop yourself from going back to a toxic pattern? Toxic patterns are things that over rule our brain due to conflicting situations of the past. Do you remember a time where you had to take a pause and refrain yourself from doing something that would be consider "toxic" in your eyes today? Those are the moments that you could say you are doing a "Deer in Headlights" motion.
Society makes it seem having those moments are not okay and unforgivable, an this is far from true. It is more than okay to stop and pause, even looking back at what caused you to stop in the first place. This creates a better motion of self-preservation, self-reflection and self-awareness.
Reflection time:
1. What was the time you felt you had a "Deer in Headlights" moment?
2. Do you think you can apply this for a certain moment in your life? Why or why not?
3. Do you enjoy unique topics like this one?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. It's such an interesting perspective which I hadn't considered, and so I'm really grateful for you making it a topic of discussion!
I can definitely relate to the feeling of being frozen in place when faced with a different situation. I was bullied pretty heavily at school, there was one pretty extreme incident and I knew I needed to leave, but I just couldn't pull myself to do it. I felt completely and utterly like a deer in headlights, paralysed by fear and indecision and total panic.
Since then, I've been able to apply this to other areas of my life. Whenever I find myself feeling stuck or overwhelmed, I take a step back and try to assess the situation calmly. I remind myself that it's okay to feel scared or unsure, but that I don't have to let those feelings control me.
As for unique topics, I definitely enjoy them! I think it's important to explore fresh perspectives and ideas. It helps us to grow and learn, and it can also lead to some interesting conversations and thoughts! (I've always loved sitting in curiosity.)
Thank you again for sharing your thoughts on this topic. :)

I think sometimes a deer in the headlights moment can happen to me personally when I have an overwhelming amount of choices. Especially when they are quite big choices like choosing specific University degrees or what country to live in. It can be quite a challenging one, almost paralysed by choice.
