Horsemanship
My retirement dream was to teach horseback riding. However I "lost" my lesson horses this past summer. All 3 had to be put down for various reasons. Horses kept me sane during the last 10 years of my career. And losing my horses almost broke me last year. However we now have 2 new wonderful horses in our lives. I am prepping them for their job as lesson horses. But I am finding that my focus is changing. Simply working with children teaching horse communication on the ground has been infinitely rewarding. I found my passion in life- and love to share it with others.
The horse search continues. Oh my the wrong horses I have met. Getting pretty good at evaluating new possibilities. Using observation and intuition, because the horses also check us humans fairly quickly. Just looked at a small TWH yesterday, wrong in some many ways. What was I thinking!! Not the horse's fault - the human was a little bit crazy. Sorry to use that word, but true.
So I am having a reality check lately. Because of a dramatic change in my partnership my horse journey needs serious consideration. Cant even begin to think what my life would be like without the boys. But right now one of my geldings is lame. My unrideable senior horse. Even thinking about what the consequences of a very lame horse means sends me into fits of tears. I just had a sick, then injured dog. What is the universe trying to tell me. Oh, at least I can count on my animals for their devotion.
Barny, sending you and your animal friends lots of hugs and healing energies. It can be so hard!
I remember the first time my own horse was lame, until then i hadn't fully understood the dufference between hiring and owning, and that day I so wanted too ride with my friends.😥
@MistyMagic- thank you for your reply. Horses have been such a huge committment/lifestyle for over 16 years. Wondering if it is time to let them go. The heartbreak of losing my beloved horses over the past years has brought me to my knees. I cherish every day I can ride. Havent been able since Duke has been lame because he gets upset alone.
@barncat How are you getting on? It's been a while, I hope things are improving?

That so great! I miss working with horses.
Well, the latest endeavor is searching for another riding horse. Since Duke has kissing spine and is not rideable it is turning out to be an interesting journey. Both horses I looked at this week were LAME!!!
@barncat I wish you good luck. I remember so well the difficulties of finding a good horse and I came to the conclusion that if they are good then why sell them?
